There will be cookies, hot cocoa, a winter craft, and student performances during the event. Arctic Lights was established in 2015 as a community-building event. New Service: InformaCast Mobile Safety App | |
A mobile safety app that features a Grinnell Campus Alert Button is now available for campus community members to download and use anywhere on College property. This optional mobile app complements the campus-wide emergency alert system, InformaCast.
The alert button can immediately notify a Campus Safety dispatcher of the need for assistance or other issues of concern. The alert button does not replace or supplement 911 and will not notify the police when activated.

Build a Better Grinnell 2030 Receives USDA Grant | |
Build a Better Grinnell 2030 (BABG 2030) has received a grant of $197,153 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Placemaking Innovation Challenge. These funds will support the mission of the BABG 2030 project: to identify and prioritize community needs as well as resources, assets, and partners to guide community development and quality-of-life improvement over the next decade.
The grant was secured in partnership with the Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation; BABG Research Director Monty Roper, associate professor and department chair of Anthropology at Grinnell College; and Grinnell College’s Office of Community Partnerships, Planning, and Research.

| Strategic Planning Fall Sessions Report Available |
A report on the strategic planning sessions that took place throughout the fall semester is now available on the Common Good site. The report provides basic statistics about the sessions as well as syntheses of what participants shared relating to each planning area.
Also on the Common Good site, is a comprehensive report compiled by the strategic research team that presents verbatim contributions from participants as well as a report that presents lightly edited contributions organized by topic. These materials will serve as the basis for the next steps in the planning process.
| Cover to Cover: Registration Open for Dec. 7 Session | |
President Anne Harris and members of the College’s senior leadership team are exploring recent books Cover to Cover this academic year, and students, staff, and faculty are invited to join.
The Dec. 7 book will be Seventy Years in Academe: A Memoir, by the late George Drake. President Harris will be joined by Loyal Terry ’23, student government association president. Complete the online Qualtrics registration form to apply to join the discussion. The registration link will be turned off after the session fills.
In-person attendance is limited to 12 individuals per session and advance registration is required. The book will be provided to participants who do not own a copy. The session for registered participants will be held at noon in the Nollen 1 conference room.
This year’s readings are works from the President’s bookshelf that reflect on some aspect of the College’s mission and purpose. Upcoming dates and topics can be viewed on the Cover to Cover webpage.

Health and Wellness Updates | |
There is currently one student in isolation on or off campus. Two new cases were reported in the past week, and there have been 144 cases since Aug. 8, 2022. | Masks remain optional but anyone is welcome to wear a mask as an effective way to protect themselves from respiratory illnesses. Please respect each other’s choices. Masks are required when around others during isolation due to COVID, for five days after completing isolation, or for those with a known COVID exposure. High-risk individuals should mask as appropriate and can use the accommodation process if needed by visiting the Accessibility and Disability Resources site. High quality masks remain available to students and employees. |
The new bivalent COVID boosters are available at the Grinnell Hy-Vee Pharmacy. Search for available appointments at the Grinnell or other Hy-Vee stores or call 888-713-7040.
Poweshiek County Public Health also has a limited supply of bivalent booster doses available.
