NSU Law alumna next U.S. Attorney of South Florida
|
NSU Law alumna Ariana Fajardo Orshan, JD 1996, was confirmed by a voice vote by the full Senate today, August 29, 2018 as the next U.S. attorney for the Southern
District
of Florida.
As an
assistant
Miami-Dade state attorney she specialized in narcotics and organized crime. Fajardo Orshan rose to the 11th Judicial Circuit in 2012.
Upon accepting the position as U.S. attorney, Judge Fajardo Orshan thanked her mentor Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle.

NSU Law student publishes for McIntosh, Sawran & Cartaya
Dominic DeCesare is a 3L at NSU Law and currently sits as the Executive Justice for Teams for the NSU Moot Court Society. In Spring 2019, Dominic will compete in the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Competition.
|
Dominic began clerking with McIntosh, Sawran & Cartaya, P.A. in February 2018 and has been with the firm ever since. Recently, Dominic enrolled in the Civil Field Placement Clinic where he now serves as a Civil Clinic Intern for the firm. During his time with the firm, Dominic has conducted extensive legal research and drafted discovery and dispositive motions in Florida and Federal Courts. McIntosh, Sawran & Cartaya, P.A. has provided experience for Dominic in the areas of insurance defense, insurance coverage, bad faith claims, medical malpractice and other civil litigation.
McIntosh, Sawran & Cartaya, P.A. are heavily involved in the NSU community with Mr. Doug McIntosh (JD '81) sitting on the Board of Governors. Furthermore, in 2015 the firm was awarded “Corporate Partner of the Year” for the firm's dedication to the success of NSU law and their students.

On Campus Interview (OCI) Fall 2018
NSU Law students are invited to participate in our Fall 2018 On-Campus Interview Program (OCI) Session 1, held from August 27 – September 14, 2018. OCI allows students to apply to government, public interest and law firm employers for summer associate, law clerk and permanent employment.
Employers may also choose to participate in our Resume Collection Program. This program allows employers to receive resumes and application materials from students. The employers then have the opportunity to contact interested students directly to schedule interviews.
Bidding for the program began in Symplicity on July 12. To prepare, students should review the employer list and schedule an appointment with a career advisor to have their resume reviewed and to discuss their bid list.

The Office of Career Services and Professional Development held the inaugural Practice Interview Program on August 8, 2018. Seven alumni interviewers performed practice interviews for 22 students who registered to participate in the Fall On-Campus Interview program. The interviewers met with each student for 30 minutes and provided verbal feedback. The development of the program was due to the leadership of Assistant Dean Janice Shaw and the hard work of Michelle Denis (JD 2015)
and Geovanni Denis (JD 2015).

International Visitor Leadership Program

Professor Timothy Arcaro and the Children & Families Law Clinic hosted a group of Latin American visitors from the International Visitor Leadership Program, sponsored by the U.S. State Department in conjunction with the Clinic’s work on The Hague Abduction Convention. The visitors included judges, lawyers, and law enforcement professionals from Colombia, Ecuador and Argentina. The Clinic had worked with the program’s local coordinator, Global Ties Miami, in the past when a similar meeting took place with representatives of the Japanese legal community.
