Students Attend KY Conference

Thirteen students from ten different universities attended the 2025 IPPS Eastern Region conference in October on scholarships. The scholarships were generously funded by the Eastern Region and the Eastern Region Foundation. Students were given the opportunity to expand their knowledge of plant production through tours and talks. Just as importantly, they were able to meet members of the industry and see the wide range of careers available in horticulture. One of the highlights was a dinner with other students and IPPS members. Providing students with the opportunity to attend the conference strengthens our organization through a new generation of members excited about the future!

Area Meeting Held December 4th

Twixwood Nursery owner Tom Kimmel graciously hosted an area meeting on December 4th in Berrien Springs, MI. Tom and staff guided attendees through the production cycle of vinca and toured the shipping areas and greenhouses as well. More HERE.

Research News: Emerald Ash Borer Resistance

Ash saplings newly planted on Cornell land are potentially resistant to devastating emerald ash borer insects, making the university the first propagation center in New York state. After finding several resistant trees in its natural areas, Cornell Botanic Gardens is collaborating with other conservation partners to propagate more resistant trees. If successful, these trees and their progeny could be used to reforest decimated woodlands in New York State and beyond. Learn more about this exciting project and the mechanisms of resistance involved HERE.

SUPPORT THE IPPS EASTERN REGION FOUNDATION

The IPPS Eastern Region Foundation had an eventful year, awarding $8,000 in scholarships to horticulture students, $3,000 in support of students attending the Eastern Region conference and helping to send a young IPPSER member to the 2025 IPPS European meeting in England.

Thanks to your generosity and growth in Foundation investments the Foundation has been able to give out more than $50,000 in the last 6 years. Consider supporting this important effort by making a donation, setting up a legacy gift or naming the IPPS ER Foundation on a beneficiary form or IRA distribution. With your help, the IPPS motto "To Seek and To Share" will benefit and inspire generations of horticulturists and help IPPS continue as an important organization in horticulture.

ATTENTION: Membership Dues Renewal

If you haven't done so already, now is the time to renew your membership dues for the coming year. You can pay for one year or you can sign up for the automatic renewal option which charges your card once a year (on or near your expiration date) so you don't have to log in and renew! A reminder that if autorenewal is your preference (even if you enrolled previously), select "change" before selecting "renew" when you are within 30 days of your dues expiring (December 31st). Please note that the autorenewal membership can be added or removed from your account at any time throughout the year by going to the "My IPPS" part of your account and selecting "change".
