Assessment Growth

Greetings, Student Services assessment rockstars!

First, a BIG thank you to you all for your dedication to continuous improvement - evidenced both by your timely, strong assessment document submissions and our greatest charrette participation EVER in Fall 2023. Continuing to see how assessment is being used to make meaningful and manageable improvements has been incredibly rewarding for us and hopefully for all of you as well!

Looking at reflections of Fall 2023 Charrette experiences, detailed further below, it is clear that YOU are an incredible resource for each other. Participants indicated appreciating hearing different perspectives by offices similar and very different from their own. We encourage you to register for the Spring 2024 Charrette and elevate the experience with your attendance! If you would like to bring a +1 (or +2!) with you as an opportunity to grow assessment expertise in your unit, just indicate so on the registration form.

For the Spring 2024 Student Services assessment cycle, the due date for documents is Friday, May 31st. This date has been adjusted from previous Spring deadlines to allow enough time for all Student Services assessment documents to be included in the 8.2.c. Compliance Certification narrative for our SACSCOC Off-Site Review.

If you would like to chat about your assessment before the charrettes, please reach out or book a Student Services Support appointment.

Keep blooming,

Serena

AI & Assessment

Wondering how AI can be leveraged in your assessment process? Check out the Integrating AI into Student Affairs Assessment recording and presentation from the March 7th SAAL Structured Conversation!

Keep in mind:

  1. Do not use sensitive or protected data such as identifying student information in AI tools.
  2. Always prioritize our commitment to embracing an ethical culture and information security when utilizing AI technologies.
  3. While AI can be helpful for brainstorming ideas or refining your work, always carefully evaluate the accuracy and quality of what an AI tool has provided before using it. AI is not a replacement for assessment expertise - when in doubt, reach out to IAA.

We're Listening: Charrette Feedback Highlights

62% (8 of 13 responses) indicated first-time charrette attendance!

92% (12 of 13 responses) indicated to leave the charrette duration as is.

100% (10 very useful, 3 useful) of responses identified charrettes as the most useful of bulletins, charrettes, the pre-submission check, and 1:1 meetings.

Feedback on Fall 2023 charrette changes including focusing on the results, reflections, & action plans was overwhelmingly positive.

Respondents indicated the following benefits from attending the charrettes:

  • feedback on exploring & evaluating data
  • seeing documents from similar groups
  • feedback from different units & incorporating new ideas
  • learning about other areas
  • valuable feedback from IAA staff and colleagues before submitting document

Quotes:

emphasis added

"It was good to see how other areas were taking self-assessment seriously. They all seemed pretty committed to producing good work."

"Feedback is very beneficial to improve assessment documents especially from different units."

"The people and snacks were excellent."

One area of improvement based on feedback was a preference to switch the order of reading and introducing the assessment document for each round. So, we will make this change in our Spring 2024 Charrettes!
