Expanded Programs Driving Student Success | | |
Student success at Cuesta College is the result of sustained, collegewide commitment.
Over the past several years—and continuing into this academic year—we have strengthened a range of programs and practices designed to support students academically and personally. These include the JEDI faculty development program, the Affinity Center, MESA, ME First, FAST Way, the Basic Needs Center, Caring Campus, Study Jam, STAR Signal, Cuesta Connect, and expanded student mental health services.
At the same time, we have enhanced the student experience through improved classroom technology, stronger Wi-Fi connectivity, expanded study and gathering spaces, and increased access to basic needs support and emergency resources.
Each of these efforts reflects a shared commitment to meeting students where they are—removing barriers, strengthening connection, and helping them stay on track.
The result is clear: more students are completing courses, persisting in their education, and building momentum toward their goals.

Alpha Gamma Sigma Students Earn Statewide Honors
Sean Maneely and Kathryn Wiest, members of the Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) Honor Society at Cuesta College, earned top honors at the centennial AGS State Convention this past weekend.
Maneely received the Ed Walsh Award, recognizing outstanding community service, while Wiest was honored with the Kathleen D. Loly Award for academic excellence.
Competing against exceptional students from AGS chapters at community colleges across California, their achievements reflect dedication, leadership, and academic commitment.
Their success highlights the strength of Cuesta College students and the opportunities available to excel both in and beyond the classroom.

Marketing and Comms Efforts Earn Awards at State Conference
Cuesta College was recently recognized at the Community College Public Relations Organization Awards, receiving:
- Gold – Video (Promotional, Short Format)
- Gold – Digital Advertising Campaign
- Bronze – Website
With a record number of submissions this year, this recognition highlights the creativity, strategy, and collaboration of our Marketing and Communications team.
In addition, President Dr. Jill Stearns presented at the conference alongside Allan Hancock College President Dr. Kevin Walthers, contributing to a broader conversation on higher education, communication, and collaboration among community college leaders across California.

MESA Program Students Tour Potential Transfer Universities
Earlier this month, eighteen students from MESA, The Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement program, traveled with faculty and staff to visit Cal Poly Pomona, UCLA, and CSU Long Beach—exploring transfer pathways and envisioning their next steps. Experiences like these expand horizons, build confidence, and reinforce what is possible.

During spring break earlier this month, our facilities, custodial, IT, and grounds teams completed critical upgrades and improvements across campus with minimal disruption to teaching and learning.
Progress continues on the SLO Campus Center, with move-in anticipated to begin May 11, 2026. This new space will significantly enhance the student experience and centralize key services.
Following this transition, the 2100–3400 renovation project will begin. While this phase will be more complex and require temporary relocation of several student services, careful planning is underway to minimize disruption and maintain continuity for students and employees.
These investments reflect our long-term commitment to creating environments that support learning, connection, and success.

We look forward to welcoming our incoming Fall 2026 students as they begin their Cuesta journey—building their class schedules, connecting with support services, and taking their first steps toward success.
Studython at SLO and NCC Campuses, May 11-12, 5-11 p.m.
As the semester concludes, Studython provides extended tutoring, faculty support, and campus resources to help students prepare for finals and finish strong.
