Reading opens the possibilities to learn and grow as an individual, to succeed in academics, to connect with others, and to develop empathy (Ally & Ernest, Every Child a Super Reader). Experts agree that children who read over the summer have a definite advantage over non-readers.
Recognizing the important role that reading plays in education and character development, Saint Andrew’s requires rising Kindergarten through 8th grade students to complete summer reading. All grades have 2 required reading books this year, however students are encouraged to read more than just the two books on their list!
Students should have access to the summer reading books after we return to school in the fall as they will complete projects and discussions about the reading in class.
Happy reading!
