Students,

Yesterday the Governor said schools would continue on their remote learning plans through the end of the school year. We continue to think about you and wish we were all back in the building together. As a faith community, we are blessed that we can be united in praying for each other during this time of separation.

More information about the completion of the school year will be sent to families this week but in the meantime, we have two important adjustments to our remote education plan. Please read this email thoroughly.

Missing Work

As we continue our remote learning plan, all teachers will be following a new approach toward late or missing work starting this week. For those with outstanding or missing work, you have until Sunday, April 26, at 11:59 p.m. to submit that work. After that time, no opportunities for credit on that work will be given.

Assignment Grading Policy Effective Today, April 21:

Assignment due date: ____ (whatever it is for that assignment)

Assignments turned in within 2 days of the due date receive full credit

2 days after due date: a zero will be entered

1 week after due date: partial credit (50%) can be earned for work submitted late

After 1 week past due date: no credit can be earned (0)

Example:

4/21: Assignment due
4/24: zero gets entered if not submitted
4/28: Last day to earn partial credit (50%) - after this date, a zero stands and no late work for credit

Assessment (Test/Quiz) Grading Policy Effective Today, April 21:

Assessment due date: ____ (whatever it is for that assessment)

Assessments completed within 2 days of the assessment date receive 80% of the score earned

Assessments not completed within two days of the assessment date will receive a zero with no opportunities for late completion.

It is extremely important you are keeping up to date on your PowerSchool, creating a schedule, and meeting due dates. All assessment dates are to be posted by teachers one week in advance to assist you in planning.

Office Hours

We also encourage you to participate in your teacher-led "office hours." The student survey responses showed that more than 50% of students had participated in less than 10 office hour sessions. These virtual sessions are designed to assist students but also provide general instruction. While we are not having a traditional school schedule online from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. like a normal school day, we do expect greater participation in these learning opportunities. We have asked our teachers to increase the instruction provided and have permitted them to begin awarding participation points for these online sessions. All office hours are posted for you on PowerSchool and we anticipate most students could participate in 7-10 sessions a week.

We realize this is a transition for all of us and we are trying to balance that transition with the expectation placed upon us to continue providing instructional opportunities. We look forward to the day we all can return and pray for you and your families’ continued health.
