STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS

2nd ANNUAL CULTURE DAY

The Student Council is hosting a Culture Day next Friday, April 26th for all students who want to show a traditional food, song, and or dance. On the day, tickets will be sold for $1 with a limit of 5 tickets per student. Students who sign up can get their tickets for free as compensation for the time and work they’re contributing. A sign up sheet is up already in the school (Student council board) for anyone who is interested in participating, as well as a music request sheet for those who want to share a favourite song from their culture.

For details see Bryce or Victoria from SC this week!

In addition, the following week, your council will be hosting a friendly 3v3 basketball competition during lunches. What better way to show your school spirit than by beating a teacher team in basketball? Sign up happening now.

STUDENT UNIFORM SURVEY

Thank you for taking time to complete the survey below. Your input is appreciated and will be used by the school administration and school council in determining how to move forward with uniforms at IRHS. It may be beneficial to review the entire survey prior to answering questions.

ACHIEVEMENTS

ROCKETS ARE IN THE AIR!

Mr. K and the grade 8s were busy last week adding the last touches to their rockets in preparation for the annual rocket launching competition. Sadly, the all-time record of 58.49m by Gryffin P. was not beat. The 3 top distances were as follows: Isabella with 37.63m, Wyatt with 42m. and finally Carlo at an impressive 49.56m took the top position this year. You can always tell it is rocket launching season when the grade 8s start walking around with 2L bottles of pop. Way to go Mr. K making a science lesson come to life!

FROM OUR COMMUNITY

We heard from a community member that the COFB is in dire need of donations. The demand is higher than ever, and not enough donations are coming in. People are being turned away. If you can help in any way, please consider donating. The link below takes you directly to the Food Bank's website to donate.

REFUGEE FUNDRAISER DINNER

A sponsoring group lead by Asif Khan, is having a fundraiser Pakistani Dinner on May 4th. Khan was sponsored (with his family of 11), by St. Charles Garnier six years ago. The group is looking for financial support to raise funds to sponsor a friend of theirs (a family of four), who have been stuck in Thailand for 11 years, and whose situation is dire. Although the application was filed over a year ago, the Johnson family could arrive any time now. The dinner is at the Unitarian Church (1310 Bertram) at 6:00pm -by donation. We invite everyone to support this event.

For more information, please contact Keith Germaine at 250-300-1062.
