"A good education is the greatest gift you can give yourself or anyone else."
Mahtab Narsimhan

Greetings!
We hope this message finds you well. These are such unprecedented times! We thought you might appreciate some good news and an update on the impact of your support. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the temporary closure of Escuela de Educación Especial de San Miguel de Allende however the learning continues via the virtual classroom. We hope that by sharing some of the positive activities which have recently taken place at EEESMA, along with photos of the smiles of the children, your day may be brightened.

This selfie of Directora Juaniz and her girls was taken in February on a field trip to El Charco del Ingenio. Many of the students, although native residents of San Miguel and surrounding rural communties, had never before visited the botanical garden; a true outdoor biology classroom!

Stay safe,
John

Virtual Learning Can Be Fun!
To keep students engaged and excited about doing school work and in an effort to have them continue a learning routine throughout the school closure, each teacher has formed a FaceTime group with the members of their class who use their parents' cell phone to communicate with each other in sign language. You can see by the look on their faces, the students are enjoying these lessons! This great group of teachers are receiving well deserved applause from the students' parents and certainly from the Board of Directors. Great work Maestras!

To help assist as much as possible during this difficult time, all teachers and staff of EEESMA, including part time vocational training instructors, continue to be paid as usual from the date of closure of the school on March 16th through to at least April 30th.
There are no government supported schools for the Deaf in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Public schools do not offer sign language instruction.

We need your help to ensure Escuela de Educación Especial de San Miguel de Allende continues to offer Deaf Education to children and young adults in the area. There are no other options.

Please show your support by making a donation if you can.
All fundraising at EEESMA is accomplished by volunteers.

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart. Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."

Proudly celebrating our many Canadian donors and volunteers, EEESMA joined together with eight other Amistad Canada partner NGO's from San Miguel. It was a great opportunity to demonstrate the good work being done at EEESMA to help children who are Deaf to receive an education and to learn Mexican Sign Language.

CATHY TAYLOR
is an award winning mixed media artist and popular workshop instructor. Her water media artwork is a celebration of the patterns, textures, and color found in the natural environment. Cathy is known for her ability to interpret a subject in a variety of styles. From her colorful detailed alphabetical designs including the Florida "Shell-A-Bet", to her whimsical collages and multi-dimensional abstracts. In the minds and hearts of all those at EEESMA, Cathy is best known for the open hearted volunteerism she generously offers to the school.
When approached more that a year ago, about the possibility of her offering art instruction, she didn't hesitate, immediately jumping in to give at least once a week classes in alcohol ink and water color collage. Cathy has been bringing her energy, enthusiasm, artistic skills, teaching talent and friendship to EEESMA since that time.
Although Cathy has many other philanthropic interests, she has promised not to leave EEESMA any time soon. And we intend to hold her to that promise!
