Dear KLSD Community,

My thanks, once again, to our entire community for working collaboratively and effectively to keep everyone as safe as possible.

As you know, we’ve reported positive cases of COVID-19. In each case so far, because the individuals involved were so thoughtfully proactive and followed the rules indicated by the daily health screener, we have been able to keep schools open.

With great appreciation,

Andrew Selesnick
Superintendent of Schools
An expanded focus on social-emotional learning
Movement breaks can be an opportunity for fresh air, to take a mask break and—when led by Dr. Lara Monasch, psychologist at Meadow Pond Elementary School—a time to play games that blend empathy with physical activity!

Each elementary school is finding a way for clinicians to check in with children and support their development as eager, curious and confident learners.

A big idea that nurtures self-reflection and digital fluency
The most important thing I learned was …
My thinking about ____ has changed because …
I am very proud of this because …

These are the types of reflections that middle school students will be including in their digital portfolios. It's part of a school-wide initiative this year for students to get to know themselves as learners.

Innovations that enhance hybrid learning
After physics students collected data on velocity vs. time by riding the school’s elevators, they worked through the Elevator Acceleration Lab on a platform that allows those in Cohort A to collaborate with their peers in Cohort B.

Teachers are tapping a variety of resourcesfrom district staff developers to educators in other statesto find resources that enhance hybrid learning.
