Key points to know:

  • A transitional transfer request is for SPS eligible students going from fifth-grade to sixth-grade or eighth-grade to ninth-grade.
  • Request must be made Nov. 2 - Dec. 9 for the 2023-2024 school year.
  • Once notified of a transitional transfer request approval, parents/guardians must accept or decline the transfer by Dec. 12.
  • Current 5th and 8th graders who are on an immediate transfer who wish to attend the middle or high school aligned with their current transfer school's feeder pattern will need to complete a transitional transfer request for that school. Otherwise, those students will be enrolled in the middle or high school assigned to their physical address.
  • Transferring schools can effect your MSHSAA eligibility.
Overview
Each year, SPS eligible fifth-graders and eighth-graders, who do not wish to attend the middle school or high school determined by their home address, have the opportunity to request a transitional transfer to the middle school or high school of their choice for the next school year.

For the 2023-2024 school year, transitional transfer requests may be submitted between 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, and 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9. Requests are granted on a first come, first served basis determined by an electronic time/date stamp.

In order for a request to be approved, there must be space available at the requested school. Due to current and projected high enrollment, Cherokee Middle School will be closed to all transfers for sixth-graders, for the 2023-2024 school year.

If your student is interested in this option for the 2023-2024 school year, you must submit your request online beginning Nov. 2. If you request is approved, you must accept or decline the transfer by 4:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 12.
