In June of 2018, NYS approved a new certification pathway for special educators interested in extending their existing certification to address the growing shortage of certified special education teachers in NYS. Special Educators who have an existing NYS Students with Disabilities Generalist Grades 1-6 certification, who are interested in obtaining an extension for grades 7&8, are invited to study these grade bands through a three course series.
Beginning on January 7, 2021, the Hudson River Teacher Center is providing an opportunity for educators to participate in the Grades 7 & 8 Extension Series courses at no cost through the HRTC grant. For the Grades 7 & 8 Extension, participants will take the following courses via Google Classroom:
Knowledge of Students (15 hours)
Instructional Strategies (15 hours)
Professional Practice (15 hours)
Together, these three courses meet NYSED Students with Disabilities CTLE Certification criteria for extending an existing NYS Students with Disabilities Generalist Grades 1-6 certification to include grades 7 & 8. The three courses will run from January 7, 2021 through April 15, 2021.
