Back in September, I interviewed 99-year-old Gertrude Bloede about
her life. She never married, and spent 30 years in the mission
field as a nurse and midwife, serving in Africa and Red Bird
Mission in Kentucky. At the time of our interview, she had been
retired for 25 years and living at Otterbein Retirement Living
Community in Lebanon, Ohio.
Gertrude passed away November 1, which makes this interview all
that more important for her family's history. I can still hear her
voice and laughter ringing in my ears. She was sharp as a tack as
you will hear. You can listen to it
here. A copy of the interview and her photo has been sent to
the family.
