MSY Opens Monday July 6
for In-Studio Classes!

It has finally arrived! We stand on the threshold of returning to an aspect of life fondly remembered and sorely missed by many - practicing yoga at the studio!

Beginning next week, MSY will offer three different ways to take yoga:
  • At the Park
  • Online Videos
  • In-Studio Classes

All three ways share come commonalities: 60 minute practices, yoga to strengthen and stretch your body and mind, pathways into yourself.

They also have unique qualities:
  • Park classes allow you to be outside in the fresh air and sunshine, communing with nature while you practice and enjoy your yoga friends at an expansive distance.
  • Videos invite you to take care of yourself at home, establishing a regular practice that you can do anytime you choose, as many times as you would like. You can also try new things in the comfort of your home (like falling over in a balance pose :-)
  • In-studio classes offer you the quiet and peace that we have created together over 14 years, plus the opportunity to be in communal relationship with other yoga students - at a safe and respectful distance.

It is completely up to you how you choose to practice! We are here to serve your needs.

Please read the sections below very carefully and choose the best way for you to keep your yoga practice strong. There are a lot of details to absorb, I know, but you already know and practice most of them out in the world!

With the addition of park and in-studio classes, we can offer four video classes each week:
  • gentle
  • moderate
  • chair yoga
  • strength & balance
Some weeks you might just find a surprise Friday Surprise! class!

In the Studio - Opening Monday July 6 for small classes on a limited schedule
We are reopening the studio in small stages, dependent on your interest levels. We will add more classes and teachers as you are ready! For the first week of the July Session, there will be six classes offered at four levels:
  • gentle
  • moderate
  • moderate plus! (with vigorous options)
  • chair yoga
Due to spacing restrictions, there are only 6 spots for each in-studio class. All classes will be held in the Garden Studio for now.
Your in-studio experience has changed - New Guidelines
MSY will strictly follow all restrictions and guidelines set by the state of Maryland:
  • complete a self health questionnaire (verbal) in order to enter the studio;
  • maintain 6' distance between mats and other students;
  • socially distance as you move through the studio;
  • wear masks when entering, exiting, and within the studio (optional on your mat);
  • wash hands or use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the studio;
  • clean everything used or touched after each class (students may be asked to clean their own props or any studio props used - like usual; teachers will disinfect all studio props used).

These measures will help ensure the safety of our yoga community, plus those at home. They change other factors as well for the time being:
  • classes will be 60 minutes long in order to limit exposure time and allow teachers to clean thoroughly after each class;
  • you must bring your own mat, water bottle (filled), and other props you like to use (beach towel instead of a blanket, peanut or tennis balls, straps);
  • all personal props must be thoroughly cleaned before bringing them into the studio;
  • unfortunately, students cannot use studio blankets, belts, peanuts, or eye pillows at this time. We can offer blocks and elastic bands, as they are easy to disinfect. MSY has limited amounts of mats, mat bags, blocks, peanuts and therapy balls for sale.

Fees and Registration Nuts & Bolts
Flexibility in the midst of change!

Everyone responds differently from their own needs and preferences during these weeks when life is reopening, and will interact with the world in their own way and time. We are sensitive to your needs for flexibility in committing to yoga classes; so, for the remainder of the summer, the studio is tweaking its registration system to offer you the greatest amount of flexibility and the ability for it to handle all three aspects of our offerings. This changes things up a bit, but will hopefully allow everything to run smoothly.

  • All classes are 60 minutes long, whether they are videos, at the park or in the studio.
  • Since we have limited class size and number of classes this summer, there are NO drop-ins or make-ups allowed.
  • Everyone must register for each class in advance. If you have a pre-existing 3, 5, or 10 class pass from before March, you must pre-register for classes, but they are already paid for by your pass.

I n Studio - pay per class
Yoga and Strength & Balance classes: $16 per class
Senior classes $10 per class

At the Park - pay per class
Yoga: $10 per class

Video - paid by Class Pass or per class
Yoga and Strength & Balance classes: $16 per class
Senior classes $10 per class

Video Class Passes - Passes are ONLY for Video Use (except yearly unlimited pass holders)
  • July 5 Class Pass - $75
  • July Senior 5 Class Pass - $45
  • July 10 Class Pass - $125 (this replaces the Unlimited Monthly Pass)
  • Yearly Unlimited Class Pass - you are good to go for video or in-studio classes!

How to Register - Please note changes!
Everyone will register by the week - this gives you the greatest flexibility!
  • Weekly schedules will be available on the registration system on Sunday morning by 8AM for the upcoming week - this includes in-studio, at the park and video classes
  • Register for the class or classes of your choice - in-studio, park, or video
  • Please register ASAP for Monday classes, so we know who is coming!
  • You must register at least 2 hours before an in-studio or park class
  • Cancellation - if you must cancel for an unforeseen reason, please give us 24 hours in order to offer your place in the class to another student. You fee will remain as a credit in your account. This is especially important since there are only 6 places in each class.

This system keeps all of us on our toes each week, but allows you to come to classes according to your schedule and preferences!
