Dear BYS Yoga Family,

We are writing today with heavy hearts, saddened to share the following with you all, our beloved kula. Thank you for reading and for your continued support during these uncertain times.

After 16 years in the space on East Carson Street and two years together as BYS Yoga Collective, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close the studio. Like so many small businesses, we can no longer withstand the social and economic effects of COVID-19. The harsh reality we have come to face is this: we have depleted our financial resources, and we have no timeline for when we can safely be in the studio again. We hoped we would not have to deliver this news; unfortunately, we are not the first yoga studio in Pittsburgh to send an email like this one.

We hope you too will see this as a practice in non-attachment. Though the physical space will close, the practices, friendships, and communities cultivated within the studio will continue. Of this we are sure. In the coming weeks, we will share information about where you can find our teachers. Please support them. And please support the yoga communities in your area during this time of collective healing.

We would be remiss not to acknowledge all of the love and support of our students, teachers, and community partners over the years. Kristi and Jody built a home with doors wide open, and it was an incredible honor to carry on the practices, rituals, and traditions – inside the space and around Pittsburgh – these last couple of years.

So where do we go from here? Outdoor Yoga will continue through the end of September. Also by the end of the month, we will clear out the studio, which will certainly be an emotional task. If you have anything in the studio – a yoga mat, water bottle, etc., – please contact us. We will arrange a pickup time.

Please reach out to [email protected] if you have questions. Even as the pandemic persists, this is temporary. Everything is temporary, as we have learned through our yoga practice. We are in this together, still.

In service,
Alicia, Alana, RaeLynn, Ashley, and the BYSYC Team

Summer 2020 Outdoor Policies:

  • You MUST pre-register for each class via MindBody in order to secure your spot. This also means that you will pre-pay for each class so that we can avoid the handling of cash on site. Sign up under the "Classes" section on our website.
  • These classes are filling up! If you can't make it to class, please notify us so that those on the waitlist can join.
  • Please wear a face mask before and after class; masks are optional during practice.
  • Please bring your own yoga mat, towel, water, sunscreen, and whatever else you’d like for your practice.
  • Yoga mats will be spaced ~6 feet apart.
  • If we must cancel class due to inclement weather, we will make that determination 30 minutes before class. The class will be cancelled via MindBody, and we will make the announcement on social media.
  • There will be no refunds, in the event of a cancelled class. We also cannot guarantee a refund if you are not able to attend a class you signed up for (if you let us know 48 hours prior to the class, we will try to fill your spot and, therefore, might be able to offer a refund).

We thank you for your cooperation!
