Dear study abroad students,
We hope you are having an enjoyable and productive spring semester abroad! The study abroad team at CGPS knows that you’ve worked really hard to get this far and we’re proud of the way you have represented the University of Delaware and its study abroad legacy this spring. We know it’s taken discipline and focus to accomplish your study abroad goals this semester with so many uncertainties and restrictions. Nonetheless, you’ve invested in your course work and immersed yourself in another part of the world during a global pandemic. We hope you feel a sense of pride in your progress so far, and encourage you to remain vigilant in keeping yourself and your classmates safe and healthy.
I’m writing to clarify details that were in a recent message from UD, which stated that some University travel policies and restrictions are being relaxed. We’ve received several questions from students abroad about how this change in policy affects all of you. The new policy is specifically for members of the UD community who are currently on campus and are planning for future travel, not those (including you) who are currently participating in a pre-approved study abroad program. The study abroad guidelines and policies that were in place when you left the U.S. have not changed. Specifically, current study abroad participants are still not able to travel to other countries while on official study abroad programs. You were authorized for travel to a single site of activity for your program, and that has not changed.
Your safety and wellbeing remain our top priority. Recent developments surrounding the crisis in Ukraine as well as the rise in COVID-19 cases in some countries are reasons for even the most experienced travelers to remain cautious.
We encourage you to continue to look for ways to deepen your experience at your host site, and to start looking for ways to expand your travel experience following the conclusion of your official study abroad program through independent travel or future global learning programs.
Sincerely,
Matt Drexler, Interim Associate Director
