Hope + Healing you can read about...
What Are You Thankful For??
Sometimes it's easy for us to forget how much we have to be thankful for, especially when we are constantly reminded of all the things we don't have or all the things we want. There may also be times when we forget that there is someone out there who is thankful for us.

If you're reading this newsletter, it's because you care about the community we live in and you play a part in making sure that our community is a better place for all of us. Maybe you work for a school, a nonprofit, or a local/state government agency. Maybe you are a philanthropist or an advocate to an under-represented population. Perhaps you're a parent or an elected official. Whatever you are and whatever you do, we want you to know that we are thankful for you. We are grateful that you care enough to stay up to date with what is happening at our agency each month and that our success is important to you. You are vital to our mission of offering hope + healing to those in need and we don't want you to ever forget that.

We hope you enjoy your time with family and friends this Thanksgiving. And if you happen to pull the wining side of the turkey wishbone, wish for hope + healing to be spread even more next year than it ever has before.

YPI's Red Ribbon Week Essays Reach over 3000 People
Our Youth Prevention & Intervention program held a writing contest for the students of West Oso High School's AVID classes a few weeks ago. Each student was tasked with writing a letter to a friend or family member regarding the dangers of substance abuse or how it is affecting their lives.

The 3 best letters were chosen from each of the 5 classes and those letters were posted onto our Facebook page so people could vote on their favorite. A winner was chosen from each class. Once all the voting was done, these 15 letters reached over 3000 people on social media and helped spread the word about the dangers and effects of substance use. Pictured here are some of the winners.

Our education department provided presentations and alternative activities for over 4000 students during Red Ribbon Week.
Project Link Visits City Council
Our Project Link team met with City Council and Mayor Joe McComb last month to proclaim October as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Awareness Month. Abuse and dependence of prescription painkillers, heroin, and other opioids have led to an opioid epidemic in Nueces County and our state. Prenatal exposure to opioids may result in infant opioid dependency called Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). Nueces County has the 5th highest rate of NAS in the state so proclamations like this and services like the ones Project Link provides in our community are vital to the future of our children.
