The countywide "Stuff the Bus" food drive will be collecting donations for the ACCA Food Pantry at the Annandale Giant Food at 7137 Columbia Pike on February 11. After the holidays, donations taper off and food pantries need your help. We encourage you to go shopping that day and pick up something extra for the ACCA Pantry.
ACCA also needs volunteers for 2-hour shifts at the Giant store and to transport and shelve the donations. This is an especially good opportunity for students who need community service hours. To sign up, please contact Jean Rackowski at (703) 914-8066 or

New Meals on Wheels Coordinator
|
 |
Dave Roycraft, Coordinator, Annandale Meals on Wheels
|
 |
Since Fall 2016, the Annandale Meals on Wheels program has had a new volunteer coordinator, Dave Roycraft.
Dave first learned what a vital service Meals on Wheels provides when his elderly parents living in New Jersey signed up for the program. His mother sang the praises of Meals on Wheels and Dave decided he could get involved locally. At the time, he was working nights at Channel 9 as a broadcast engineer and was free during the day. Now, almost six years later, Dave drives for four different Meals on Wheels programs: Burke, Clifton, West Franconia and Reston. "It's a good service and I am happy to be involved," Dave says.
After retiring in August 2016, Dave learned that the Annandale Meals on Wheels program was looking for a new coordinator. He volunteered for the position, which involves working with the caterer, the clients and the route sheets, as clients start or stop the service. Donna Casey "does a wonderful job," Dave says, as the driver coordinator for the three Annandale routes.
When he is not driving or coordinating Meals on Wheels, Dave can be found volunteering for Vehicles for Change, the organization that accepts donations of used cars, repairs them and gives them to families who would otherwise not have a means of transportation. He also enjoys bike riding and feeding the birds near his home in Burke, Va. Welcome aboard, Dave, we are delighted to have you!

CROP Walk Totals In
The fall 2016 Annandale CROP Hunger Walk raised a total of $18,914 for Church World Service (CWS). The event raises funds for CWS to combat hunger and poverty in the U.S. and abroad. A portion of the funds raised will be returned to ACCA for our work locally. Ten ACCA churches participated in the walk through walkers, volunteers and member donations.

ACCA History - Did You Know?
The daycare center established by the ACCA founders is now known as the ACCA Child Development Center (CDC). It provides developmental childcare and early education for almost 200 infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. For about 10 years, the CDC was housed in various ACCA churches. Then, in 1977, after closing the Annandale Elementary School, Fairfax County leased part of the building to ACCA. Later, the County built an Infant/Toddler Center on the site. The CDC has been located at 7200 Columbia Pike ever since.
