JANUARY 2023

"At this very moment for the people and the nations of the earth may not even the words - disease, famine, war and suffering be heard; but rather may their moral conduct, merit, wealth and prosperity increase and may supreme good fortune and well being always arise for them."

(The Auspicious Wish ~ H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche) World Peace Flags

MAY BLESSINGS SHOWER ALL BEINGS IN 2023!

Many of the prayer flags we printed are flying at Dharma Centers around the world.

One of our longtime customers, Kunzang Palyul Choling (KPC), recently sent us some photos of the prayer flags around the stupas that they’ve built in Poolesville, MD and Sedona, AZ.

The photo below shows the Amitabha Stupa in Sedona, Arizona.

The KPC website has an excellent article on stupas. Here is an excerpt from that article:

“Stupas are an ancient form of sacred architecture that represent the heart of enlightenment – not just as a form of tribute but as a radiating presence that transmits blessings to all those who come in contact with them. If properly constructed and empowered, a stupa is like a spiritual generator. It broadcasts virtue of such power that it brings peace and harmony to all beings and balances the forces of nature.”

A stupa’s power comes from its symbolic geometry, its contained sacred substances and through empowering consecration. Tibetan prayer flags, with their colors, symbols, prayers and sacred mantras, function according to the similar principles. Through wind generated movement they emanate blessings creating peace and harmony in the environment.

The photos of stupas and prayer flags above were taken at the Stupa Park in Poolesville, MD.

All the prayer flags in the photos were printed by Radiant Heart Studios. Vertical Prayer Flags and Horizontal Prayer Prayer Flags on Rope are the two ways to display prayer flags.

The traditional way of printing prayer flags is using carved woodblocks. The fonts and symbols are hand-carved in the reverse, which takes a great deal of skill. Our blocks are detailed and precise and the prints are clear. They are printed with black ink on 5 colors of cloth.

Screen printing is a more modern method. The images are hand drawn but are transferred to a stencil photographically. Colored inks may be used with the stencils so it's possible to use light colored inks on the darker backgrounds, producing a more viewable print (white on dark blue and green, red on yellow, blue on white and yellow on red.

This Month's Naga Calendar

(See our website for more information about Naga Offerings and Prayer Flag Ceremonies)

During the 11th month of the Tibetan Calendar (Dec. 24 - Jan. 21) the Nagas are preparing for their winter season. If you make offerings to them on a teb day, you will enjoy peace and happiness. If you make offerings to them on a dok day, they will feel disgusted by your offering and flee.

During the 12th month of the Tibetan Year (Jan. 22 - Feb. 20), the Nagas are guarding and holding their treasures. If you make offerings to them on a teb day, they will come under your command and will grant you all your wishes. If you make offerings to them on a dok day, then no matter how good your offering is, they will think it is bad and there will be no result.

The "teb" (positive) naga days are listed on the calendar below. January 13 and 31 are especially good days to perform offering ceremonies.

The "dok" (negative) naga days are January 1, 6, 10, 29. Don't make offerings on those days.

Avoid raising new prayer flags on January 7.
