A Note from Scott and Marsha
October 22, 2020
Happy Thursday. Does anyone know what happened to October? Because I do believe we blinked and it's almost over! We have been buried under bins of pumpkins and tables of pansies and mums. But who knew this could be so much fun?!  Between unloading trucks, flying through lawns aerating and seeding and installing some amazing landscape and hardscape designs, we certainly are having a good time!

The other day, I was headed to the garden center strolling along the lake whistling and looking ahead because I'm always on the lookout for snakes. Yes. There are snakes, and I like to be prepared for a blood curdling scream to alarm them.

I rounded the drive by my favorite tree on the property, Willow. Suddenly, I see the biggest smile from a beautiful girl jogging toward me. I realize it is my neighbor's daughter and her friends who are absolutely gorgeous and dressed adorably head to toe!

I asked her if she was here for a photoshoot based on her outfit and all three girls were ready for the cover of Vogue. Do you remember when we thought we had the cutest clothes and trendiest styles when we were in high school? Because I know I didn't ever look this cute, and I promise my hair was 10 times more voluminous than the current style. Let's all stop and thank God that teasing and hair volume has not circled back. Am I right?

It seems FGS has become "the spot" for bloggers and photoshoots. At least several times a week, the cutest of all ages arrive dressed and adorable for the perfect picture with their iPhones. We have so much fun following along #fgsdurham tags and seeing all the beautiful people, kids, babies and dogs!

One customer shared the following with "The Potting Shed" staff last week:  I live down the road and I have been shopping here for years and years. I used to come in a t-shirt, workout shorts and tennis shoes and grab my flowers and mulch. Now I feel like I gotta dress up just to come and have a drink and pick up plants!

We love you no matter what you wear or how you look! But keep those pictures coming!  You never know when your picture may show up in one of our future posts or how we might use it. Of course if we decide to use you on a billboard on Interstate 40, we will ask first. Maybe .... ;)

Speaking of trendy and adorable, let's talk about houseplants. We are going to be flipping some of our indoor space as we prepare for Christmas poinsettias. Once the sights of orange and the scents of pumpkins are gone, the sweet smells of Frasier Fir and Candy Canes won't be far behind! Christmas is coming and we have all your fresh, living holiday needs! We can't wait to serve you this holiday season! We will have the perfect Christmas tree and wreath just for you!
COMING EVENT:

GARDEN CENTER FEATURES
JUDY'S HOUSE PLANT PICK
If you missed it last week, we gave away this gorgeous Fiddle Leaf Fig on Instagram. Lucky for you, we have many other Fiddle Leaf Figs (Ficus Lyrata) in various sizes available to choose from. These trendy and beautiful plants will look great in any room with bright light. Have cathedral ceilings? We currently have a bush that is nearly 12 feet tall and about 6 feet wide! It is a sight to behold. But if you have a small spot, we also have 6 inch pots available!
GINGKO BILOBA
If you recognize the name, but not the fact that this is a tree, there is good reason. Gingko Biloba has been used for centuries for multiple medical and emotional maladies. But what we love most about this tree is the gorgeous fan-shaped foliage. The leaf shapes are often used for design and art because they are so beautiful. Many varieties have stunning yellow foliage in fall. The most common varieties grow to about 40' x 30' at maturity, but we have dwarf varieties in stock as well.
EVERGREEN PERENNIALS
Over the next couple weeks, we'll feature evergreen perennials. This week, we want to share our favorite evergreen perennials for sun. For color during winter, plant now. Some of our favorites include Honeysuckle, Euphorbia, and Ann's favorite, Penstemon Husker Red. If you are hoping for early spring blooms, consider Candytuft or Creeping Phlox. Color now, color later. Win, win. All of these varieties are in stock.
On Saturdays and some Sundays, we have food trucks to enjoy! Pair a yummy meal with a cold beverage or treat from The Potting Shed, and you have the perfect combination for a fun fall afternoon. Enjoy here or pick up a meal to take home after picking out pumpkins, pansies and mums at the Garden Center! Who loves fall?? See the Food Truck Schedule here. :)
Thursday, November 12, 6:00pm-7:00pm

The Potting Shed will be open serving, wine, beer, and Sunset Slush. This class is free, but registration is required. Register here.
