Too Much Water or Not Enough?
Watering Guidelines
Trying to figure out the watering needs for your new plant, tree or shrub can be tricky at times.

One thing is certain. Water newly planted plants, trees and shrubs at the time of planting, and then adjust all watering according to the plant's variety and its needs.

For more information, follow our suggested watering guidelines.
It's Tree Planting Time!

It's the perfect time of the year to purchase, plant and enjoy your tree. Don't wait for the long, hot days of summer.

Let our tree experts help you select from our many beautiful tree varieties at both locations.
April Maintenance Guidelines
After years of working in the industry and building a nursery business around Oklahoma's inclement weather, we are suggesting the following maintenance guidelines:

* In mid-April, after danger of frost, plant bedding plants, vegetables, herbs, summer flowering bulbs, and annual seeds.

* Add Marcum's private label organic Redbud Compost to revitalize your soil nutrients while planting new plants.

* Apply ferti-lome Systemic Insecticide Drench to trees and shrubs to keep insects away.

* Roses: Apply ferti-lome Rose & Flower Food with Systemic Insecticide once a month through our growing seasons.

Featured Tree
Just as beautiful as our Oklahoma sunsets, the Oklahoma Redbud has graced our city streets and neighborhoods with its vibrant dark pink flowers and glossy green foliage. Choose specimen quality trees at both store locations.
Featured Annual
Patented in 2014 by Kelly Marcum, of Marcum's Nursery and featured on the Martha Stewart Show, this sweet potato vine's showy heart-shaped foliage looks as if Jackson Pollock's paintbrush has been at work.

Dahlia's Answer: Determinate, Indeterminate, and 20 varieties

Dahlia's Dirt!

Tips on Choosing Your Tomato Plants...

Few of us can conceive of cooking (or eating) without the presence of tomatoes in our diet. Regardless of the season, tomatoes are a staple in most households.

Marcum's carries many varieties including but not limited to the following:
Pink Brandywine, Arkansas Traveler Heirloom, Juliet Cherry, Park's Whopper, Rutgers, Big Boy, Super Fantastic, Beefmaster, Mortgage Lifter Heirloom, Beefsteak Heirloom, Jet Star, Better Boy, Champion, Lemon Boy, Sun Sugar, Celebrity, Better Bush, and Early Girl.

Height and bushiness of the plant are important, particularly for gardeners growing tomatoes in small spaces. Check to see whether your selected variety is "determinate" or "indeterminate".

Your intended use for the tomato may dictate your selection as well as how many "days to maturity". In other words, the time it takes a transplant to bear ripe fruit.

Ganelle's Banana Pudding
Delicious dessert with banana and caramel on table close-up
It's not Easter without Ganelle's Banana Pudding!

We featured this recipe last April honoring our special friend, Ganelle. She was our first employee at Marcum's Nursery and worked 38 years for our family business.

She loved to cook but more than anything, she loved cooking for her family. She will be forever missed.
