Update on HB1828, a bill to Eliminate Out-Of-Pocket Costs for Diagnostic & Supplemental Breast Imaging

Yesterday, the House Labor and Commerce Subcommittee voted unanimously to report HB1828 to Appropriations. This is good news and the first time we have had a unanimous, bipartisan vote in support of the bill! Now, the full Labor and Commerce Committee will vote on this recommendation. In almost all instances, the Committee approves subcommittee recommendations. After that, HB1828 will be considered by the House Appropriations Committee. We will send information on how you can help advocate for the bill in Appropriations shortly so stay tuned!

Our huge thanks to all advocates who called or emailed legislators - and to those who submitted comments and testified during the subcommittee yesterday! Great job!

Background

HB1828/SB1238 will eliminate the high out-of-pocket costs (co-pays, co-insurance or deductibles) that many patients face when getting follow-up diagnostic or supplemental breast imaging - including diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). By removing the financial barriers to medically necessary follow-up breast imaging, HB1828 ensures that no one faces the impossible choice between their health and their finances.
