The District’s CRE profile is shifting to include substantial logistics operations. This trend continues, with the District now having approximately 18 million square feet of industrial/flex space compared to about 10.5 million square feet of office space. Each March, Tracy Harrison, our VP of Public Safety, joins forces with Green House International Church, Harris County Sheriff's Office, Houston Police Department, and Villa Serena Communities for a day of family fun featuring a meet and greet with law enforcement, free food and drinks, moonwalks, live music, games, giveaways, and more. Investing in Apartment Safety Training | |
Proactive protection for apartment communities in the District is crucial to our public safety initiatives. Houston Police Department's Blue Star certification program assists apartment managers and owners with crime prevention. It covers everything from environmental design impacts, cybercrime, and disaster scenarios to situational awareness, identity theft, and liability issues. The District is tracking five projects that have been announced or are in the planning stage. Four are logistics-related, with the fifth being a new elementary school. The projects are dispersed geographically, with two projects in the District’s northwest quadrant and one each in the northeast and southeast quadrants. Stay tuned for updates. | |
Airline Drive Pedestrian Improvements | |
The District is partnering with Harris County Precinct 2 to improve a one-mile stretch of pedestrian walkway along both sides of Airline Drive from West Road to Aldine Bender. This area gets substantial foot traffic, so the wider sidewalk aims to provide a safer and more pedestrian-friendly area. Work is slated to begin in the spring of 2024; officials expect the work to last between 60 and 90 days. Updates coming soon! | |

North Houston Sports Complex is a huge tourism draw for the District and offers community engagement year-round. The North Houston District was honored with a Parks and Natural Areas Special Recognition Award for planning excellence from the Houston-Galveston Area Council on February 9, 2024, for its Parks Master Plan.
Pictured on left, Bart Baker, the District’s Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, accepted the award. The H-GAC’s Parks and Natural Areas Awards program recognizes best practices and innovative park planning and implementation approaches.
