JFS on News 12 Connecticut!

JFS was featured on News 12 Connecticut, highlighting our Compassionate Companions program, which assists seniors and adults with disabilities by providing door-through-door transportation to non-emergency medical appointments.

We’re seeking volunteers to help support this important initiative. If you’re ready to lend a hand, we’d love to hear from you. Email the Volunteer Department to get involved!

Community Partnership Spotlight

JFS of Greenwich has a rewarding partnership with the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa, providing job opportunities for refugee clients.

This collaboration began when JFS employee Dino Morell connected with Marriott's Director of Human Resources Nihal Weerasinghe. Since then, Marriott has hired eight clients as front office workers and housekeepers.

One Ukrainian woman began work at the front desk. Despite language barriers, her motivation and warm demeanor have earned her praise from guests, and Nihal believes she has great potential for advancement. He explains: "It's vital to help those in need no matter where they come from; everyone has a story and circumstances that shape their journey."

The partnership between JFS of Greenwich and Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa has proven mutually beneficial, creating a positive impact on our clients and the community.

If you own a business and would like to provide similar opportunities, please contact Dino Morell. We are grateful to Nihal and the Stamford Marriott for their partnership.

Supporting Adolescents in Stress Management

On October 21 and 22, JFS teamed up with both Greenwich and Stamford Public Schools to host a training on SPARCS (Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress). This training was facilitated by the model's developers, Dr. Mandy Habib and Dr. Victor Labruna.

SPARCS helps participants learn self-regulation by identifying triggers, enhancing coping skills, understanding emotions, and implementing healthier strategies for managing stress.

JFS will co-lead groups for identified adolescents in both the Greenwich and Stamford Public School systems, to support students with a history of trauma that affects their daily functioning.

This project is funded through the generosity of the Greenwich Department of Human Services and the Bennett Center for Behavioral Health.

JFS at the Meals on Main Street Fun Run

Team JFS recently participated in the Meals on Main Street Fun Run. The weather was perfect for a walk or run!

We are proud to support community partners that work tirelessly to address food insecurity, and events like the Fun Run allow us to come together to raise awareness for this critical issue. Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to participating in more events that make a difference in our community!

If you're interested in volunteering for our programs that combat food programs, please email the Volunteer Department
