We are happy to let you know that we are creating a Latino Studies Unit at the Stein Institute for Research on Aging. Zvinka Zlatar, PhD, has agreed to begin developing the Unit, with the help of our faculty, trainees, and staff.
Dr. Zlatar is a bilingual and bicultural faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at UC San Diego, where she leads the Wellness Initiative for Senior Enrichment (WISE) Lab. Her research interests include developing lifestyle interventions to promote healthy brain aging and prevent dementia. She also investigates how individual's perceptions of their cognitive changes relate to declines in neurocognitive tests and dementia risk in older Hispanic/Latinx individuals.
Dr. Zlatar received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Florida, with a focus on adult neuropsychology/geropsychology. She completed her APA-accredited clinical psychology internship at the University of California, Los Angeles focusing on the neuropsychological assessment of older adults and Spanish-speaking adults. She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in neurocognitive aging at the University of California, San Diego where she studied how physical activity and sedentary behavior affect cerebral blood flow and cognition.
