Emergency Hunger Relief Grants

Greetings!

As you may be aware, an urgent need for hunger relief has arisen due to the SNAP funding cut brought on by the federal government shutdown. Food pantries, social service agencies and foundations are working together to strategize about how to meet the increase in need.

To shed some light on the number of people affected by the SNAP cut:

  • In our catchment area, there are 12,789 households totaling 20,512 individuals on SNAP (September 2025 data)
  • Many of the pantries in our area serve a much wider geographic footprint. In Middlesex County, there are: 92,776 households totaling 148,284 individuals on SNAP (September 2025 data)
  • Statewide, there are over 1 million individuals being affected.

Given the immediate need, the trustees of the Sudbury Foundation have approved $155,000 in emergency funding to be distributed immediately to 17 local hunger relief organizations.

Although our current hunger relief infrastructure cannot absorb this volume of need, many of our partners are working hard to do as much as they can and we are here to support their work.

Sincerely,

Sonia Shah
