Suder Montessori is Level 1
We are proud to announce that Suder Montessori Magnet School has earned a School Quality Rating of Level 1. This was based on the performance during the 2018-2019 school year. For more information, review the letter from the CPS Chief Executive Office which can be accessed here . The 2019-2020 SQRP can accessed here .
Suder Jog-A-Thon
The Suder Jog-a-thon was a huge success!!! Thank you to the Friends of Suder for planning and hosting such an amazing fundraiser. We appreciate all the students, staff, families, and sponsors that participated in the Jog-a-thon! We are less than $6,000 away from our goal and we are still accepting donations online until November 21, 2019. Follow the link below to make additional donations. We look forward to this event next year!
Student Attendance on Make-Up Days
At Suder Montessori, we completely understand that November 27, 2019 and January 2-3, 2020 were originally on the calendar as vacation days for students. Please ensure that your child is in attendance those days. I know this is a huge request and may conflict with planned vacations. If this is the case, please notify the attendance clerk, Ms. Valadez, at rvaladez5@cps.edu as soon as possible .

Review the Make-Up Days FAQ for more information on how the make-up days were selected.
Parent Education Night
All families are invited to learn about the Montessori curriculum in a public setting. Parent Education Nights are offered during the school year on various topics. The first Parent Education Night is Tuesday, November 12, 2019, from 4:15 pm - 5:45 pm. See the flyer for more information and RSVP below.
Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
PAC, or Parent Advisory Council, exists to build and promote the capacity of parents of students participating in Title I programs to partner with their children’s schools in the education of their children. PAC’s main responsibilities are to advise the principal on the use of Title I parent & family engagement funds as well as to serve as a bridge between all school parents and the school administration. We received $848.40 in PAC funds for the 2019-2020 school year. Be sure to complete the PAC Funds Proposal below if you want to suggest how the council should spend these funds.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, we will hold a PAC Meeting at 6:00 pm. The Council will develop a budget for the $848.40 we received in Title I funds. Please join us in Room 110 for this meeting.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences will take this place Wednesday, November 13, 2019. This is a non-attendance day for students. Parents, please sign up for conferences using the links below. We have very exciting things to share with you about your child's learning! Also, during conferences we will have two State of the School Presentations. The first one will take place at 2:30 pm and the second one will take place at 5:00 pm in the Cafeteria.
Shelter-in-Place Drill
Chicago Public Schools are required to complete three safety drills each year including an Evacuation Drill, Lockdown Drill, and Shelter-in-Place Drill. The Evacuation Drill and Lockdown Drill took place earlier this year. In an effort to provide families with an opportunity to talk to their children about the drill, we are notifying parents of the upcoming drill. The Shelter-in-Place drill will take place on Friday, November 15, 2019. Please see the Emergency Planning Guide below for more information on the Shelter-in-Place Drill.

Note: Evacuation Drills are supposed to occur monthly. The Chicago Fire Department does not tell schools when they are coming to conduct the evacuation drill as it is supposed to be a surprise drill. Therefore, we cannot inform families of the drill date, but we are committed to informing parents once the drill takes place.
First Quarter Celebration: Skating Field Trip at MLK Rink/Bowling Alley
The Suder Montessori School Community will be celebrating the first quarter by taking an all-school field trip to MLK Skating Rink/Bowling Alley. The trip has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 5, 2019 ! We are inviting all students and staff to attend the celebration as it is a unique school culture-building opportunity for Suder. Each class will require one chaperone. Please see the permission slip linked below and return it as soon as possible.

Early Childhood students will have the option to bowl instead of skate. In addition, we will have alternative activities for E1, E2, and Middle School students who do not want to skate. Students will be closely monitored by adults and have access to skate mates (pictured above) available for use.

Note: We strongly encourage families to pay for trips online at   https://magic.collectorsolutions.com/magic-ui/Login/cps-26881-suder-montessori-magn
Cool Things Are Happening In Room 208
Room 208 dove into some delicious science experiments! They studied how Skittles and water make a colorful explosion and about density in food coloring. They also learned that while an M&M candy will sink in water, the M itself will come off and float to the top! Finally, the students in Room 208 created sedimentary and metamorphic rock models using Starbursts!
