Suder Welcomes Foreign Exchange Student from China
|
|
During the 2018-2019 school year, Suder Montessori developed a partnership with Deyang No.5 Middle School located just outside of Chengdu, China. In April 2019, Suder had the opportunity to send a group of students to China for a cultural exchange. During this exchange, Suder students had an opportunity to immerse themselves in Chinese culture by staying with a host family, attending class with their host brothers and sisters, trying new foods, and much more!
On Friday, Suder will welcomed seven students and three teachers from our sister school, Deyang No.5 Middle School. We hope to reciprocate the incredible experience our students had when they visited China in the spring, and to strengthen our partnership so that we may continue this cultural exchange for years to come. We've already provided our foreign exchange students with great experiences! See photos below.

Starting this school year, CPS established the
Student Rights & Responsibilities
which includes the CPS student-created “Bill of Rights” along with the “Student Code of Conduct”. In alignment with our school’s value around cultivating student agency, we will establish the
Suder Student Council
led by Ms. Hogan this school year. Elementary 2 and Middle School Students will have the opportunity to run for the Suder Student Council Executive Board and must complete the application by October 4, 2019. Third graders in Elementary 1 and students in Elementary 2/Middle School will also have the opportunity to serve as classroom representatives.
The Suder Student Council will meet bi-weekly from 9:00am-9:30am. Some of the work that the Suder Student Council will engage in will be guided by the WE Schools Kit. The WE School Kit is a unique, experimental service-learning program that challenges young people to identify the local and global issues that spark their passion and empowers them with the tools they need to take action.
Application Process:
- Submit a signed permission form
- Collect signed recommendations from three different Suder Montessori staff
- Write a typed speech of approximately three minutes in length
- Make two campaign posters
Reach out to Ms. Hogan if you have any questions!

In order to establish and maintain clear communication with families, we have created the Suder Family Handbook, which has information about the school and its operations, policies, and procedures. Refer to this handbook often as it provides important information for families. We hope that this handbook provides you with a clear understanding of our school-wide expectations, programs, and policies.

Interested in providing a little Staff Sunshine?
|
On Mondays, we have surprises for our staff in the teacher’s lounge. It can be anything from popcorn, a candy “bar,” croissants, donuts, tea, soup, or anything in a crockpot. Don’t have time to set it up in the morning? Don’t worry about it- FOS will set it up. All you have to do is drop it off in the office at drop-off.
|
|
Parents like to party. So, FOS has created “Parent Parties” on every first Thursday of each month. We will alternate from a morning party to after school party and the parties will take place in the new FOS room after it is renovated. We hope to continue to build our community through these parties. Expect food, surprises, and community. Stay tuned for more info.
Join us for a Parent Mixer at Grand Central Brewery, 6-8pm. Enjoy Pizza on FOS and try out some new beers from our neighbors! Street parking is available.
