CPS' Goal to Reopen Schools |

CPS released a phased plan to reopen schools for in-person instruction during the second quarter. While we will begin the second quarter learning at home, CPS' goal is to reopen school buildings for pre-k later in the second quarter. Suder Montessori is considered a specialty school and our reopening plan may look different from other schools. Suder Montessori is working with CPS to determine what reopening will look like for Early Childhood at our school. Once decisions are finalized, we will share this information with our larger school community.
Families with Children in Pre-k
Beginning next week, the district will send an intent form to all families with children in pre-k seeking to understand their desire to return to in-person learning. To ensure that schools are staffed and have adequate time to plan for reopening, it’s important that we know how many families are comfortable sending children back to school. Families will have until October 28, 2020, to complete the intent form. Families who choose to continue learning at home will not be able to enroll in in-person learning until the third quarter.

Progress Reports were generated on Friday, October 9, 2020, and have been mailed by a CPS vendor. Families can expect to receive progress reports within the next few weeks. Visit the Aspen Parent Portal for students' most up-to-date grades.
Reminders about Progress Reports

Progress Report grades are used to give parents and students an idea how students are doing at the mid-point during the quarter. They do not show up on students' report cards or transcripts.

Students' grades will more than likely be different by the time you receive their Progress Report. After you receive your student’s Progress Report, please check Aspen as well. Visit the Aspen Parent Portal for students' most up-to-date grades.
- Students are working really hard on revising and redoing their current assignments. Many grades do not reflect this at the moment. Please be aware that your student may be working on revisions that have not been calculated into their grade yet.
Remote Learning has not been easy on any of us, and your students are all working so hard. Please remind your student that if they are struggling and need extra support to please reach out to their teachers for additional support.

SY21 High School Applications Now Open |

Attention all eighth grade families! The high school application opened up Monday, October 12th, on go.cps.edu! By now you should have received your child's activation code in the mail, which you will use to activate their account. If you were unable to make it to one of the high school application information sessions last week but have questions or would like to talk through high school options, please reach out to Ms. Hogan so that she can set up a time to chat!

Family Income Information Form Extension - Due 10.23.20 |

The purpose of the Family Income Information Form is for CPS to obtain information about families' income to determine school funding. Suder may receive additional funding based on the number of low-income families enrolled. It also determines if yearly school fees will be waived. It is imperative that everyone, if you qualify or not, complete the form and upload using the link below, fax your form to 773.534-7933, or drop the form off at the school by the new date of October 23, 2020. You may also pick up copies of the form and drop off your form Monday - Friday 8:45am - 4:30pm at Suder Montessori.

Suder 2020 Advisory Local School Council Election |
|
The Suder 2020 Advisory Local School Council Election will be held later this fall. Exact dates and times for the election will be sent out later after the procedures to protect voters are finalized. In the election, parents will have the opportunity to vote for up to 5 candidates to fill 6 parent positions on our school's ALSC and school staff will have the opportunity to vote for up to 2 candidates to fill 3 positions on the ALSC (2 teacher members and 1 non-teacher staff member). We encourage and invite you to vote in the parent/community election.
We encourage and invite you to attend the Suder ALSC Virtual Candidate Forum to hear the candidates speak about their qualifications and their plans if elected (or appointed) to our school's ALSC.

Friends of Suder Leadership Team
The Friends of Suder (FOS) Leadership Team is looking for parents and community members to join the FOS team. FOS is looking for people with all kinds of skills and time commitments (emailing at night, supporting class parents, making calls, etc.). They are open to any and all participation. However, we are also reaching out to build a leadership team for the 2020-2021 school year. Learn more about FOS here.

Friends of Suder Room Parents Needed
Each classroom at Suder Montessori will be provided at least one room parent. Room parents support classrooms with communication to families about classroom specific information and events that are not being hosted by the school. During a typical school year, room parents may also support with preparing materials in the classroom. If you are interested in serving as a room parent, complete the interest form below.

A huge thank you to our librarians! They’ve been coming in a few weeks to set-up the library and conduct read alouds in virtual classrooms! They are also creating content for students. Parent Education Night at Drummond Montessori |

While the Montessori Committee at Suder plans parent education nights for our school community, Suder families are invited to a Montessori event at Drummond! Join Drummond for the next Montessori Monday presentation on October 19th, from 6 - 6:30 pm, with questions and discussion to follow. They will be talking about the developmental needs of our elementary-aged children (1st through 6th grade) and how adults can best support them during this time of remote learning and beyond. They will also include practical life ideas that will support your child’s overall independence and sense of self as well.

J @ School at Suder Montessori |
Beginning with the start of the 2020-21 school year, JCC Chicago’s J at School program will offer supervised care in safe, small groups (up to 15) that supports classroom e-learning, provides families with full day care and children with a vital social outlet.
J at School will have off site locations throughout the city and suburbs to provide our families care during remote learning. J at School will provide 7 hours of daily care Monday-Friday for students in grades K-8th grade.
