There is No Place Like Suder Montessori

The first two weeks of school were fantastic! It has been a great two weeks of school for Suder Montessori students. Students, staff, and families have been doing a phenomenal job. Be Alert, Don't Get Hurt!

The parent-led Suder Safety Committee has been working really hard to make our school drop off and dismissal to run smoothly and safely. In order to maintain this momentum, we need more volunteers! 


We need your help. Please sign up for the following safety shift roles:

  • During morning arrival, we are instituting a "drop & go" in front of Suder for E1, E2, and MS students. EC families, please refrain from parking in front of the school.
  • Please note that E1, E2, & MS students can enter the school building with their EC siblings at Door 7 in the morning.
  • During afternoon dismissal, we urge all Suder families to park your cars OR make a plan to have your child(ren) meet you immediately at your car.


Please use caution when driving near Suder Montessori.


  • SLOW DOWN – the streets around Suder Montessori are part of a 

SCHOOL ZONE - 20 MPH.

  • Be aware of crossing guards.
  • Check crosswalks when turning.
  • Stop for people in crosswalks.
  • Do not drive and text.
  • Never maneuver around stopped traffic in a school zone.
  • NO DOUBLE PARKING ON WASHINGTON BLVD. Double Parking is Illegal and it is very dangerous for everyone.  Please Please Please do not double park your car on Washington Boulevard.
  • No stopping or standing on Washington Boulevard  (front of Suder).
  • Avoid pulling into or walking through the Suder parking lot for your own safety.

COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic #2

During the Suder Back to School Bash, we hosted the first COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic. We will host the second COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic on Thursday, September 8th, from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. COVID-19 Vaccination doses both primary and boosters offered will be offered to all CPS students and their families, staff & community members as well! Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins will be registered on-site by clinic staff for immediate, same-day vaccination administration as supplies last.

In-School COVID-19 Testing

CPS will continue to provide in-school COVID-19 surveillance testing through our partners at Thermo Fisher.

  • IMPORTANT: Every CPS student or staff member who wants to enroll in weekly testing this school year MUST complete a new consent form. Consents from last school year or this summer WILL NOT be valid for the 2022-23 school year.
  • Parents or guardians can click here to complete this year’s consent form. Once consent is given for the 2022-23 school year, staff and students will remain consented until they leave CPS.
  • Please refer to this guide if you need assistance in filling out the consent form.
  • You will need your student’s ID number to complete the form. Your student's ID can be found on their report card.
  • Testing will begin the week of August 29. For the first week of school, starting August 22, each student and staff member will be given a take-home rapid COVID-19 test.

Friends of Suder

Friends of Suder is the parent-led non-profit organization of Suder Magnet Montessori. FOS supports students, teachers, staff and the Suder community. Check out the FOS website to learn more about who we are, what we do and how you can help us support our school. In the meantime, fill out a short survey HERE to help us share and tailor info just for you. 


Monday Sunshine allows parents to show their appreciation for the incredible Suder staff. Every Monday we provide a treat in the teacher's lounge, to kick off the week. Some ideas include coffee and donuts, bagels and schmear, fresh fruit, granola bar, cinnamon rolls and muffins; the possibilities are endless. Remember this is a treat, so no pressure! Please bring enough to feed about 60 people. Sign up for Monday Sunshine Here

Suder Sprint - Friday, October 14th 

It's that time again, to start planning for the sprint/jog-a-thon. We're in need of volunteers and sponsor. Be on the look out for more information.

Bowling Social @ Diversey Bowl - Wednesday, October 12th, 6:30-8:30pm 

This is an Adults-Only, mix and mingle. BYODF (buy your own drinks and food), and come. meet and get to know other Suder parents. See you there! 

Medical Records/Health Requirements

Make your appointments now so you're in compliance and so your child doesn't miss school!


Kindergarten:

  • Physical exam on an Illinois form within one year prior to the first day of school with an updated immunization record including: (Two doses of the Varicella vaccine and Two doses of the MMR vaccine, Four doses of Polio Vaccine, Four doses of DPT/Dtap Vaccine) Due October 15, 2022.
  • Dental Exam on an Illinois Dental Exam form dated between November 15, 2021 – May 15, 2022 and turned in by May 15, 2023.
  • Vision Exam by an Eye Dr. on an Illinois Eye exam form completed within the previous year and turned in by October 15, 2022.


1st Grade: No additional physical/Immunization requirements if up-to-date.


2nd Grade:

  • Dental Exam on an Illinois Dental Exam form dated between November 15, 2021 – May 15, 2023 and turned in by May 15, 2023.


3rd, 4th and 5th Grade: No additional physical/Immunization requirements if up-to-date.


6th Grade:

  • Physical Exam - must be on the State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Exam form and done within one year prior to the first day of school with up-to-date immunizations including (Tdap vaccine, Meningococcal vaccine after 11th birthday (If your child turns eleven after October 15, you must submit proof of an upcoming scheduled appointment) Two doses of Varicella vaccine, Two doses of MMR vaccine and Three doses of Hepatitis B at the required intervals). Due October 15, 2022.
  • Dental exam on an Illinois Dental Exam Form dated between November 15, 2021 - May 15, 2023. Must be turned in by May 15, 2023.


7th and 8th Grade: No additional physical/Immunization requirements if up-to-date.


New students enrolling in an Illinois School for the first time:

*Required regardless of grade level

  • Physical Exam with up-to-date immunizations on an Illinois form (due within 30 days of enrollment to district).
  • Vision Exam by an Eye Dr. on an Illinois Eye exam form (due within 30 days of enrollment to district).

Please email records to Nurse Saa or fax them to Suder Montessori (773.534.7933) so they can be updated in our records.

Arts Education Opportunities for CPS Students

The CPS Department of Arts Education is excited to offer two arts opportunities for students this school year: the All-City Performing Arts Program and the Arts Student Voice Committee. The All-City Performing Arts Program is open to all students in grades 3-12. Practices will take place every Saturday at Jones College Prep (700 S State St., Chicago, IL 60605). The deadline to apply is Tuesday, September 6, and students will be notified of next steps and audition dates on Monday, September 12. Whole-Grade & Single-Subject Acceleration

The applications for whole-grade and single-subject acceleration will open on September 14, 2022 and will close on December 2, 2022. More information and the application for both processes will be found here.  As a reminder, as of 2019 when the Accelerated Placement policy was passed, principals do not have any discretion to move a student forward ahead a grade level in a single subject or a whole grade if they do not go through the state-mandated process. Early Entrance to Kindergarten and First Grade

The applications for 2023-2024 Early Entrance to Kindergarten and Early Entrance to First Grade will open on September 14, 2022 and will close on December 2, 2022. More information and the application for both processes will be found here. As a reminder, this is the only way for students to bypass the age requirements in Board Rule 6-2; principals do not have discretion to allow students who are not yet five or six by September 1 enter kindergarten or first grade, respectively.
