Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year
It is with great pleasure and joy that Suder Montessori welcomes our families to the 2020-2021 school year! This will be a year of new learning and innovation for students, parents and guardians, and our teachers. Eight months ago, we never would have imagined starting the school year remotely. It will be a little different than we expected, however, Suder Montessori is committed to ensuring that our students engage in meaningful, rigorous learning every single day. As we embark upon our new journey, remember that we are partners in investing in our children’s future. We must be patient, flexible, and understanding as we navigate our "new normal" so that our children can benefit from a well-rounded education. This year comes with new learning demands for us all, but we cannot lose sight of our primary role of ensuring all students have access to high quality instruction. The entire Suder staff has been working diligently to prepare for remote learning and we look forward to our continued partnerships with our families.

Remote Learning at Suder Montessori
All information for Remote Learning at Suder Montessori can be found on the Suder Montessori website at sudermontessori.org. From the Suder website, you can access important information including CPS' and Suder's most up-to-date policies and you can access grade-level websites that has all the information and links you need for remote learning.
SY21 Technology/Login Support Requests
As we prepare for the launch of Remote Learning, we want to be accessible to families to support your technological needs. If you are having any challenges with login information, technology, accessing Google Meet links, or any additional things, please complete the form below and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
First Day of School Technology FAQ
My student cannot log-in or is locked out of their account.
Please complete the SY21 Technology/Login Support Request to get assistance with reseting the password and/or challenge questions. Suder staff will follow up with families as soon as possible.

My student does not have a schedule in ASPEN.
All students should have a schedule as of Monday, September 7th unless you have recently enrolled. If you do not have a schedule please email Ms. Baker at scmccaster-b@cps.edu.

My student has a schedule in ASPEN but does not see all of their classes in Google Classroom.
Teachers will be sending an email to all students on their roster to give them the code just in case ASPEN did not automatically send. 

My internet went out and my student could not attend classes.
Similar to a school absence, communication that qualifies for excused absence status must:

  1. Meet one of the valid causes for absences here.
  2. For the REMOTE SETTING come in the form of: 
  • a direct phone call/voicemail to the school that communicates the following:
  • date of the absence, 
  • the reason for absence,
  • the absent student’s name, and 
  • the name of the person calling and their relationship to the student. Call MUST be made by the parent/guardian.

My computer crashed/broke, can I still request one?
We have currently exhausted our Chromebook inventory. We are attempting to acquire more technology. If we are able to do so, we will notify families.

My student logged in but there was no teacher on the call. 
Teachers may experience technology difficulties as well so stay on the call. If no teacher arrives please let Ms. Bada know by email. Substitute teachers will be utilized like normal for teachers that are absent from teaching. Students are expected to engage with substitute teachers like normal for the lesson. 
New Staff at Suder Montessori
Melissa Georgiou, E2 Teacher
Melissa Georgiou is excited to be the new teacher on the E2 team. Ms. Georgiou is starting her fifth year of teaching in the city of Chicago and has begun the Midwest Montessori Teacher Training Center's program for 9-12 teachers. She has volunteered, tutored, and taught children in different neighborhoods all over the city for more than eight years. Ms. Georgiou is an avid reader and hopes to share that passion with students. She plays Dungeons and Dragons and video games with friends for fun! 
Trixie Kelleghan, DL Specialist
Trixie Kelleghan is super excited to join the Suder Family! Her teaching experience began as Montessori Assistant in Aurora, IL. She has taught Montessori in both Glen Ellyn and Batavia and supported diverse learners as a Learning and Behavior Specialist and administrator at a Montessori school in Evanston, IL. She has fought for a Socially Just Chicago through the honor of tutoring and mentoring many students. Her goal to clear away any obstacles to learning that students may encounter so that they may reveal the majesty of their highest intellectual curiosities and unfurl the glory and beauty of their infinitely unique creativities. 
Mitchel Meighan, Science Teacher
Mitchel Meighen is an award-winning educator and presenter and has been recognized for his passion for student engagement and non-traditional teaching philosophies. He has a special interest in ed tech and empowering students to be active contributors to their educational goals and outcomes. Mitchel has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator, a program designed by Apple to recognize K-12 and higher-education pioneers who are looking to change the world and use Apple technologies to transform teaching and learning. A Pittsburgh native, he relocated to the city of Chicago and is looking forward to his first year at Suder!
LaJuanda Storey, Teacher Assistant
LaJuanda Storey is so excited to be an Assistant Teacher at Suder Montessori this school year! She is currently in Montessori training for Elementary 1 and she's worked as an elementary school teacher for the past 10 years around Chicago. She has a Bachelor’s in Human Development and Psychological Services from Northwestern University and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from National Louis University. She loves sports, especially football (Go Bears!) and she has a 1 1/2 year-old-daughter.
Angelia Parker, Teacher Assistant
Angelia Parker has been an educator for over 10 years. She recently graduated from North Park University with a Masters in teaching. As a child, she attended an early childhood Montessori in Guam. She is excited to be a part of the Suder staff and community! She looks forward to seeing your child get excited in their abilities, interacting with others with kindness and participating in the community.
Adriana Wellington, Teacher Assistant
Adriana Wellington currently attends Chicago State University majoring in Elementary Education. Ms. Wellington's hometown is Chicago, IL, where she was born and raised. She likes basket-ball, volleyball, dance, reading, writing, art, cooking, interior designing and, lastly, spending time with family. She volunteers to teach dance (hip hop, jazz, & modern). This will be her first year working at Suder Montessori. She is passionate about teaching, making a difference, and motivating students to become their best selves even when they are not in a classroom. She believes education is especially important for shaping the future of children. She is ecstatic and look forward to an amazing journey at Suder and with the Suder families.
Tiffany Robinson, Teacher Assistant
This is Tiffany Robinson's 8th year as a Montessori Teacher Assistant. She is looking forward to working with families of Suder Montessori this school year, even while learning remotely. She truly believes we can lay a solid foundation for your child’s educational journey. Her educational background is early childhood education, including Montessori training at Seton Montessori Institute and CPS professional development led by the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector. She has completed field work at Near North Montessori and Forest Bluff Montessori. Her personal goals are to model grace and courtesy for all students to garner trust and respect for a safe learning environment. She is eager to get started with this amazing school year!
Sonnia Fuentes, Teacher Assistant
Sonnia Fuentes will be joining Suder Montessori as a teacher assistant in Room 105. She's served at Suder Montessori before as a student teacher two years ago. She is originally from Cuba and has lived in Barcelona for many years. She has been living in Chicago for two and a half years with her family. She loves having different experiences in different countries because that allows her to understand people from different parts of the world. She comes from a family with a tradition of teaching. She has been working sixteen years in education. She loves her profession because she believes that education, in the early ages, has great importance for life and that is why she put all her heart into teaching.
Johanna Kenney, Teacher Assistant
Johanna Kenney will be joining Suder Montessori as a teacher assistant in Elementary 2. She has over 20 years of experience teaching in a Montessori setting from Early Childhood through Middle School. She is passionate about Montessori in the public sector and looks forward to affording families with a public Montessori education. She went to a Montessori school as a child and is looking forward to her tenure at Suder Montessori!
Aspen: Parent Portal
Parents can always have access to students grades, attendance, and other information that the school has on file through Aspen's Parent Portal. If you do not have Parent Portal set up or want to know how to navigate the system, reach out to the Suder Main Office.
Suder Main Office Information
The Suder Main Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:15 pm. The number to the Suder Main Office is (773) 534-7685.
J @ School at Suder Montessori
Beginning with the start of the 2020-21 school year, JCC Chicago’s J at School program will offer supervised care in safe, small groups (up to 15) that supports classroom e-learning, provides families with full day care and children with a vital social outlet.

J at School will have off site locations throughout the city and suburbs to provide our families care during remote learning. We will provide 7 hours of daily care Monday-Friday for students in grades K-8th grade. 
Music House at Suder Montessori
Music House is currently open for select in person dance classes. All other classes are running online. Register Now for Fall Classes- new classes include Virtual After School ClubLanguage Arts Classes, and Visual Arts Classes!
