Over 1,800 Children Referred to CAC in 2018
We're Growing to Meet the Unprecedented Need for Services
With a little over a week left in 2018, 1,898 children impacted by violence, abuse and exploitation have been referred to the Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County for support and services this year - a sobering 9% increase from 2017.

While the number of referrals continues to rise, we are grateful to be expanding our staff and programs to ensure that every child who needs us has access to the help that they deserve. Through community and grant support, our mental health team now includes six master's level English and Spanish-speaking clinicians, and our Support to End Exploitation Now (SEEN) team has grown to four members.

Please welcome new staff who joined the CAC team in 2018: Family Advocates Halie Proulx, MSW, LCSW and Niurka De Jesus, MSW, LCSW; SEEN Case Manager Chelsea Wakeham, MSW, LCSW; Outreach & Training Manager Mary Beth Dawson, MPH; and Operations Manager Melissa Ganley.

4th Annual Step Up & Speak Out Benefit Raises Over $200,000 for Children & Families
On October 17, community leaders, partners, and CAC supporters joined together at the UMass Club at One Beacon to recognize this year's honorees, First Lady Lauren Baker and Robert Reynolds , President of Putnam Investments, for their leadership and advocacy on behalf of children and families. The evening also included special recognition of long-time CAC friend, former Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley ,

While the evening was celebratory in tone, our speakers emphasized the incredible need for the CAC's unique, multidisciplinary child and family-centered programs.Without the help of our community and leaders like our 2018 honorees, the CAC would not be able to provide evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions and support services to hundreds of children each year. Step Up & Speak Out' s success was a testament to our community's commitment to child safety and well-being in Suffolk County.

A special thank you to this year's event chairs, Anne & Chuck Hajjar, Elisabeth & Bruce Percelay, and Kim Henry & Jim Quagliaroli, with gratitude to lead sponsors Bob & Laura Reynolds , Torrington Properties , and all of our sponsor s for their generous support!
Spotlight on CAC Services: Medical
Did you know the CAC provides on-site specialized medical exams for children and adolescents who have been victims of abuse? Our nurse, Adine Latimore, MS, PPCNP, SANE is a specially-trained pediatric sexual assault nurse examiner who has been a part of the CAC team for over 10 years.

Adine provides on-site medical services to our clients, medical consultation for our multidisciplinary teams and expert testimony in child sexual abuse cases. She describes, “I focus on providing reassurance to each child I see and let them know that their body is okay. I try to alleviate any concerns and questions they may have so that they will have peace of mind. I want them to leave my office being able to ‘breathe’ and to be the child they were before the abuse.
