FALL IS A TIME FOR PLANTING
Renovating the garden and making room for spring bulbs

FERNDALE – Spring flowers are the promise that brighter days follow a long winter. It is never too soon to start planning, or “planting” what your garden will offer during the vernal wake. Sullivan Renaissance and Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County Master Gardener Volunteers will discuss how to renovate your garden to make room for spring bulbs on Wednesday, September 5 at 6:00 p.m. at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County Education Center .

Karen Emmerich, Board Member of the NYS Urban Forestry Council will also be present to discuss how community groups looking to add trees to their projects can easily apply for an NYSUFC Arbor Day Grant. Karen is a certified planner who offers valuable knowledge of planting and maintaining trees in urban settings.

Diana K. Weiner, Sullivan Renaissance Horticulture Program Manager reminds everyone, “September is Garden Renovation Time. There are still a few months before the ground freezes so now is the timeto divide perennials and plant trees and shrubs.” And invites you to, “Come learn how!”

In addition to showing how to propagate and replant perennials that have finished blooming, the Master Gardener Volunteers will offer guidance on where to plant deer resistant bulbs for their best showing next spring. Lists of deer resistant bulbs and plants will be available for attendees.
