Sullivan Scoop

October 5, 2018
Dear Sullivan Families,

Happy October! We have had an exciting few weeks at Sullivan. In addition to all of the great learning going on in the school, we have been working hard to raise money for our Cash for the Cure Fundraiser, and our 5th graders had the opportunity to participate in a service learning project this week. You can stay connected to everything going on at Sullivan through Twitter and through your child's Class Dojo stories!

I am sure Halloween preparations will be underway this weekend, if they are not already. Please read the following information regarding Halloween festivities at D23 elementary schools.

The Eisenhower, Ross, Sullivan annual Halloween Costume Parades will be on Wednesday, October 31st. The Ross/Sullivan Parade will begin at 12:45. If you wish to view the parade, please assemble along the parade routes. Students from both Ross and Sullivan will exit our the front doors at Sullivan, parade along the sidewalk down to the end of Ross, continue through the Ross blacktop and around the back of the building to the Sullivan playground. Every spot is a great location for pictures! Should the weather be cold or rainy, the parade can be viewed in the gym.

The afternoon class parties will begin at 1:15 P.M.  As you think about your child’s costume for our parade, please keep in mind that schools have a heightened and serious concern about students who bring weapons to school. The concern extends to toy weapons - including toy guns, squirt guns, cap guns, martial arts devices, play swords, and knives. Do not allow your child to include any weapons with the costume they bring to wear in the parade or to bring toy weapons to school at any time during the school year. Also, your child’s costume should not include any blood/gore. These guidelines by no means should curtail the fun your child can have at the parade.

Have a wonderful three-day weekend!

Warmly,

Traci Meziere

D23 Cash for the Cure Fundraiser
Our Cash for the Cure fundraiser is off to a great start! We had a great turnout for the Chipotle night, which helped us raise over $900! So far, we have raised $2,082.73, which is almost our halfway goal! This total does not include the money donated today for Hat Day. If we meet our $2,500 halfway goal by Wednesday, I will be serving lunch in the cafeteria. All funds raised will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). We will partner with LLS and their mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Calendar of Events
Oct. 10 - Halfway Point - Ms. M serves lunch in the cafeteria if we meet our goal.
Oct. 17 - Final Day of Fundraiser
Oct. 25 - Principals on the Roof? Let's meet our goal!

Let's all join together for this fantastic cause!
