Panther Post

August 9, 2023
Dear Sullivan Families,

Welcome to the 2023-24 school year! It is hard to believe that the start of the school year is right around the corner! I hope that you and your family have been able to relax and enjoy everything that summer in Chicago has to offer. I was able to enjoy some downtime with family and friends during the month of July and enjoy the beautiful weather we had this summer.

I am excited to begin my 9th year at Sullivan and I look forward to greeting your kids on the first day of school. Our staff has been getting ready to welcome our students into the building next week. Teacher assignments will be viewable on the PowerSchool Parent Portal at 10 AM today. If you need assistance accessing your PowerSchool account, please contact the school office.

We are happy to announce that we will be hosting our Ross/Sullivan Sneak Peek again this year. It will be held from 8:45 AM - 9:15 AM on Tuesday, August 15th. During the event, families are welcome into the school to drop off supplies, meet the teacher, and visit with other families. Staff members will be inside to direct you to the correct classroom. Following the Sneak Peek, the PTO is hosting a social event at the Ross Playground. Mingle with other families and grab a treat courtesy of our amazing D23 PTO.

Wednesday, August 16th is the first day of school! Students may enter the building at 8:15 AM. Parents will not be permitted to enter the building on the first day of school. Weather permitting, students should meet their teacher on the Sullivan blacktop. We will have plenty of staff members at the doors and in the hallways to assist students in getting to their classrooms.

Our Sullivan Parent Night will be held on Wednesday, August 24th at 6 PM. A detailed schedule for the evening will be sent home at the end of the first week of school.

Please read on for important information about pickup and drop-off procedures, food service, busing, and upcoming PTO events!

We look forward to meeting our students and families in the upcoming week!

Sincerely,

Traci Meziere

Arrival and Dismissal
Busing:
Once again, we will be offering “community stops” for the 2023-24 school year. These stops are designed to ease the burden on families with children in different buildings. All schools will share common stop locations.
If you plan to be a bus rider, you should have already received information regarding the Community Stops along with your child's stop location. Should you have any questions, please contact the Business Office.

Buses drop off students at school in the morning and pick them up after school in the lot just south of the Ross playground. No auto traffic is allowed in this area. Students will enter the building on the west side of the school.

Car Riders & Walkers:
Students walking to school may enter Sullivan at any of the entrances on the Schoenbeck side of the building, as well as through the playground doors.

  • The North Schoenbeck driveway entrance will be closed from 8:00am to 8:30am for drop-off and 2:00pm to 2:30pm for pick-up at Ross and Sullivan. This will result in all traffic entering the parking lot by the main school entrance at Ross.
  • Sullivan parent drop-off and pick-up occur in the bus lane area between MacArthur and Sullivan as it has in the past.
  • The new traffic pattern can accommodate two lines, one for each school, to improve efficiency and ease of pick-up after school. Sullivan cars should proceed to the left of Ross traffic and exit at the midpoint of the lot.
  • Sullivan parents should not line up early and block traffic from MacArthur while waiting for the buses to drop off at Macarthur. Parents who drop off at MacArthur should exit the parking lot and reenter for the Sullivan line once the MacArthur buses have dropped off students,
Panther Expectations
Our core expectations of being safe, respectful, and responsible are in place whether we are learning in person or virtually. Our expectations matrix is included below for your reference. Please review these expectations with your children.
Technology Information
“Need help with a program, an app, or the iPad itself? To quote an old Radioshack slogan, “You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers!” Sullivan and MacArthur students should submit a ticket using the Incident IQ app. Eisenhower and Ross families should either put in the ticket on behalf of their student or work with the teacher, who would put in a ticket on behalf of the student. We also have our Tech Help Site, which can be accessed by clicking the button below. The site has resources and “How-to” guides. If you find yourself needing more immediate support, email us at “[email protected].” Together, we are #PROUD2BD23!”
