Are you interested in helping low-income clients prepare for the future? Join Atlanta Legal Aid on July 20 for a CLE presentation on estate planning for low income clients!
The CLE will be presented by Marietta estate planning attorney Sarah White, Marietta elder law and Medicaid planning attorney Patricia Ammari, Cobb Legal Aid Managing Attorney Tara Riddle and Cobb Justice Foundation Director Stephanie Carman.
Join us at the Cobb County Superior Courthouse on July 20 at 9AM and learn how to prepare estate plans for low-income clients! This 3-hour presentation will include a discussion of wills, advance directives, and powers of attorney. The $45 registration fee will cover CLE credits, materials provided, and lunch for all attendees. Discounts are available for Legal Aid volunteers. Register today!

Save the date for our Medicaid Boot Camp CLE, a basic overview of the Medicaid process and steps to avoiding common pitfalls.
Organized by the Gwinnett Pro Bono Projects, the course will be led by Diane Weinberg, of counsel with Morgan DiSalvo. Diane served on the Editorial Board of the Georgia Bar Journal from 1999-2001, and as editor of ElderCare Matters from 2005-2006. She is a member of the Academy of Special Needs Planner, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the Atlanta Bar Association.

Children's Rights Advocacy/Education Law Project
|
|
- Assist children at IEP hearings to request critical educational supports. We offer training and support, to hear more about this project which partners with our HeLP collaboration with Georgia State University in Children's Hospitals of Atlanta and our Disability Integration Project, click here.
- Assist children attain family stability by working with our minor guardianship project which provides assistance to kinship caregivers in completing probate court guardianship petitions. Contact Laurie Rashidi-Yazd to learn more about this limited scope project.

Property Tax Appeal Project
|
|
- Assist clients with appeals in Fulton before the Board of Equalizers. To join this limited scope project, contact Cathy Waddell.

- Help by volunteering at a Family Law Information Clinic or assisting pro se litigants in Clayton, Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett, or DeKalb. Contact Laurie Rashidi-Yazd to learn more about this limited time and scope project.
- Spanish speaking family law attorneys in Clayton, Cobb, and Gwinnett for full representation or translation projects, contact Laurie Rashidi-Yazd.
- Volunteers to handle temporary protection order 12 month hearings in Cobb, Clayton & Gwinnett. We provide training and support. To learn more, contact Laurie Rashidi-Yazd.

Housing Preservation Project
|
|
- Eviction Defense Cases - opportunities available in all Metro counties. These cases involve clients who need assistance with the return of a security deposit, negotiating a move out agreement, or requesting better housing conditions. To learn more, contact Cathy Waddell.

Advanced Planning Project
|
|
- Durable Medical and Financial Power of Attorney Drafting - assist clients by drafting and executing documents to allow them to appoint a trusted caregiver to act on their behalf in an emergency. To learn more, contact Cathy Waddell.

Our county offices strive to provide service in the most convenient places for our clients, at local courthouses and libraries. Take a 2 or 3 hour shift and make a big impact for a pro se litigant.

Summer Associates Pro Bono Series

This year, Atlanta Legal Aid held it's first Summer Associates Pro Bono Series, which featured substantive training opportunities and networking events that focused on giving young attorneys the tools to integrate pro bono work into their practices.
