When a child has learning differences or special needs, it can affect cases in a multitude of ways; it affects custody and visitation, school discipline, even criminal proceedings. Join Educational Advocate Marcia Lindner and Legal Aid for lunch and a 1 hour CLE presentation on September 12 at the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center to learn more!

Registration is $20 and covers the CLE credit and lunch. Discounts are available for current Legal Aid volunteers!

We offer more than 15 pro bono projects program-wide. Here are some of our featured needs:
Children's Advocacy Law Project
  • Assist children at IEP hearings to request critical educational supports. To learn more, click here.
  • Minor guardianship in Cobb County. Assist children attain family stability by working with our minor guardianship project which provides assistance to kinship caregivers in completing probate court guardianship petitions. Contact Laurie Rashidi-Yazd to learn more about this limited scope project.
Domestic Relations Law Project
  • Help by volunteering at our Fulton Family Law Information Clinic one morning a month for our group clinic or at daily clinic shifts or by assisting pro se litigants in Clayton, Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett, or DeKalb. Contact Laurie Rashidi-Yazd to learn more about this limited time and scope project.
  • Volunteers to handle simple divorce cases in DeKalb, Cobb, and Fulton. We provide training and support. To learn more, contact Laurie Rashidi-Yazd.
Housing Preservation Project
  • Lease negotiation cases - opportunities available in all Metro counties. These cases involve clients who need assistance with the return of a security deposit, negotiating a move out agreement, or requesting better housing conditions. To learn more, contact Cathy Waddell.
  • Volunteer with DeKalb housing cases. To learn more, contact Sarah Austin.
Advanced Planning Project
  • Durable Medical and Financial Power of Attorney Drafting - assist clients by drafting and executing documents to allow them to appoint a trusted caregiver to act on their behalf in an emergency. To learn more, contact Cathy Waddell.
Legal Clinics
Our county offices strive to provide service in the most convenient places for our clients, at local courthouses and libraries. Take a 2 or 3 hour shift and make a big impact for a pro se litigant.
