SUMMARY OF KEY PROVISIONS

The Knight Commission produced this educational resource summarizing key components of the Protect College Sports Act of 2026 that was reported out of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation on June 18, 2026, by a bipartisan vote of 19-9. The bill now moves forward to be considered by the full Senate.

FY 2025 Financial Data for Division I Public College Athletics Programs Now Accessible


The Knight-Newhouse College Athletics Database provides access to athletics revenues, expenses, and debt at more than 230 public NCAA Division I colleges and universities dating back to 2005. Data for FY 2025 is now accessible.

  • FY 2025 is the last fiscal year of pre-House settlement operations.
  • The Protect College Sports Act of 2026 being considered by the U.S. Senate uses 
    FY 2025 data on athlete participation, athletics scholarships, and athletics revenue as baseline data to establish important thresholds.
