ECAO 2022 Annual Industry Conference

September 17/18-24, 2022

Due to an issue with the website server, the old website is no longer working. Please see the new Prague Conference weblink : http://www.inscriptweb.com/ecaoprague2022

Wikipedia tells us that offsite construction refers to the manufacturing, planning, design, fabrication, and assembly of building elements at a location other than their final installed location to support the rapid speed and efficient construction of a permanent structure.

There are as many opinions on offsite construction as there are people in the construction business, and Steven Bratt, Group CEO at the UK-based Electrical Contractors’ Association, joins ECAO and all attendees at this year’s Annual Industry Conference to discuss the range of benefits European electrical contractors have experienced with off-site construction.

It’s going to be interesting! Join us in Prague from September 18 to 24 for a week of learning and networking. For the full schedule of events and registration information, visit the link above.

Summary from ELECTRI Executive Council Meeting- July, 2022

A number of us from ECAO and GTECA attended the recent ELECTRI International (ELECTRI) Executive Council Meeting in Washington, DC. ELECTRI works to help electrical contractors meet today’s demands and tomorrow’s challenges by funding, conducting, coordinating and transforming research results into meaningful, useful educational and consulting programs and practical publications. On the international scene, the Foundation conducts seminars, briefings and studies on cross-border relationships to encourage business and cultural exchanges among contractors.

There were a number of interesting topics covered and several panel discussions regarding the electrical construction and maintenance industry’s challengers and opportunities. Below you will find a summary of the topics covered during the meeting. For more information on ELECTRI International, please visit their website at https://electri.org/

  • Managing Growth (Panel Discussion). This panel discussed what the panelists felt were critical issues to ensure a managed growth for contractors and summarized by touching on the issues they should have addressed earlier in their companies’ growth.

A Prescription for Sticker Shock

Using Cost Indices to Combat Material Price Increases as a Result of COVID-19’s Impact on the Supply Chain

by Awad Hanna and Jack Morrison

It is no secret at this point that the COVID-19 pandemic has forever changed the way in which the world lives and works, and construction is no exception. While it is easy to see direct impacts on sites in the form of mask mandates, testing requirements, and similar measures; there are more latent impacts that have also come to affect construction in significant ways.

By now, supply chain delays and material shortages are ubiquitous – one would hazard a guess that every contractor in Canada has at this point been told that a component, material, or part they need is significantly backordered or completely unavailable. And even when the requisite products are available, their prices are markedly more than they were pre-pandemic.
