Outdoor yoga at BYSYC has started! And in its honor, we’re dedicating this month’s newsletters to yoga and all things related to summer – practicing outdoors, the sun, growth, and abundance. For those of you who know me, you’ll know that summer is my favorite. (As appreciative as I try to be toward the other seasons, I feel more me and more alive in the summer. And there is no such thing as too hot in my mind – I lived in Miami without air conditioning, to give you an idea!)
I look forward to our outdoor classes all year long. I can’t attend those at Station Square as I teach at the same time at the studio, but almost every Sunday morning, you can find me at Grandview Park with Ashley. Her gentle wisdom, the ability to move with the wind and under the sun, to hear the birds and the city in the distance, to feel the grass under my mat, and even to greet the tiny visitors that join me on my mat – I love it all.
Practicing outdoors doesn’t have to be just about attending classes or doing fancy poses on the beach, though. After all, aren’t we always trying to take our yoga off of the mat? I often slip poses in throughout my days outdoors. This photo is of me doing mountain pose in Cochabamba, Bolivia, during a moment of reverence for the earth and appreciation for my life’s path. By standing tall and turning my palms forward, I was poised both to receive and to offer up.

How do you slip little moments of yoga into your day? What are you most excited for now that it’s summer?
With excitement for what lies ahead,
