End of the School Year Barbecue

Nassan's Place held our "Annual End of the School Year Barbecue" at Elmwood Park in East Orange, NJ.

Our families enjoyed a day of fun, food, music, resources, facepainting, giveaways and Italian ices.

Thank you to all of our donors, volunteers and resources who helped to make this a fun day for our families as they prepare for their summer break.
City of East Orange provides Autism Summer Camp under the direction of Nassan's Place
July 1 - August 9, 2019
Nassan's Place would like to "Thank" East Orange Mayor Ted R. Green, East Orange City Council and East Orange Recreation Director Muhammad for providing a full day summer camp for the 2nd year for children affected by Autism under the direction of Nassan's Place.

The campers enjoyed six weeks of educational, recreational and sensory friendly activities including Lego building with Brick4Kidz, swimming, computer/storytime, art & crafts, trips to Sesame Place, Crayola Factory, the East Orange Public Library, Bowling and Movie day CityPlex12.

Thank you to Blue Foundry Bank for their donation for the 2nd year of water, juice and snacks for the campers.
Argentine Boca Juniors, Manhattan Azul y Oro and United Healthcare Community Plan donates to
Nassan's Place
July 3, 2019
International Argentine professional soccer team, Boca Juniors, along with the nonprofit organization, Manhanttan Azul y Oro and UnitedHealthCare Community Plan donated sneakers, backpacks, school supplies and soccer balls to Nassan's Place.

Over 60 of Nassan's Place children affected by Autism and their siblings received the donated items.

The children enjoyed talking to and taking pictures with the players. They also enjoyed being interviewed.

Refreshments were also served.

21st Annual DesignCare - July 28, 2019
DesignCare 2019 hosted by founders, Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete was an amazing, inspirational and unforgettable evening of great food, music, fashion and people as the HollyRod Foundation honored some amazing individuals affected by Autism and Parkinson who are making a difference in the world.

Lab MindHeart donates EduPal robots to
Nassan's Place
Nassan's Place would like to "Thank" CEO and founder of Lab MindHeart, Tony Meador for donating EduPal robots to Nassan's Place.
The EduPal robots are educational, fun, very interactive, personal and our kids love them.
Unfortunately, two of the original robots donated were stolen when delivered to Nassan's Place and the company was nice enough to replace them.

Nassan's Place invited to NCJW/Essex
"11th Annual B2SS - July 28, 2019
Nassan's Place would like to "Thank" the the National Council of Jewish Women/Essex (NCJW) for inviting a few of our children to be a part of their 11th Annual "Back To School Store"(B2SS)event.

Nassan's Place families along with 800 other invited participants received backpacks, school supplies, sneakers, coats, clothes and more to help them start off the new school year.
Saturday Inclusion Basketball Camp
August 3 - August 17, 2019
Children affected by Autism and their siblings participated in Nassan's Place 3 week
" Saturday Inclusion Basketball Camp" at Mount Carmel Guild Academy.

The children enjoyed three sessions that included exercise, drills and other basketball techniques that helped to enhance their fine motor, sensory and social skills.

Parents and caregivers were able to enjoy three hours of much needed "me/destress" time while the children enjoyed learning the game of basketball.

On the last session of the camp, courtesy of the NY Knicks, the campers received a visit from former NBA player, John Wallace.
John worked out, took photos and answered questions about his time as a NBA player. The children were very happy to meet, John and learn about his time in the NBA.

August 22, 2019
Due to generous support we received from JLOSH, Spark the Brain, Orange Fire Director Kenneth Douglas & the Orange Fire Department, New Vision Pioneers, Newark Board of Education and others we were able to distribute over 200 backpacks filled with school supplies for children affected by Autism and their siblings and water donated by Lola Thomas was placed in each backpack.

Families were treated to a light dinner, facepainting, a visit from the Orange Fire Department and giveaways.

Thank you to Empower U and Social Behavioral Learning Solution for joining us and sharing information about the resources they have available for families affected by Autism.

Dr. Kerry Magro who is a motivational speaker and author on the Autism spectrum along with his mom came to read his book "I Will Light It Up Blue" to over a 100 of Nassan's Place children and family members at our monthly
"Sensory Friendly Movie Day" at
City Plex12 in Newark, NJ

Kerry shared his story and journey of being on the Autism spectrum and each family went home with an autographed copy of his book. The children enjoyed his book and asked many questions.

Nassan's Place would also like to
"Thank"
Paula and UnitedHealthCare Community Plan for their generous donation of over 50 cases of water to our families living in Newark.

Thank you, to Frank Gonzalez, CityPlex12 and their amazing staff for their continued support for over six years in helping us to host these sensory friendly movie days for children and families in and around under-served inner-city communities.

"5th Annual KicksforKids" sneaker giveaway at the Newark Nike Store - 9/1/19
Nassan's Place would like to "Thank" Beatrice Carter, Gerald Murphy and KickforKids for inviting our children to be a part of their "5th Annual KickforKids" sneaker giveaway.

55 of our children received a brand new pair of sneakers at the Newark Nike Store and special arrangements were made for our children to accommodate their special needs

The families were also treated to a day of fun which included food, music, games, bouncyhouse and giveaways.
