After their hard work, dedication and 13 years, we wish to send a huge congratulations to our new St. Bon's Alumni members, the graduating class of 2018! They had a wonderful prom dinner and dance on Thursday, June 27th. On Saturday, June 30th, they celebrated with Mass, a tie ceremony and convocation ceremonies. Mayor Danny Breen '77 presented graduates with their Alumni Ties and officially welcomed them to the community. 
  • Mitchel Agiaye, who will be attending Texas A&M University to study Engineering.
  • Ami Ajadi, who will study Business at St. Francis Xavier University. 
  • Ayo Alabi, who will attend the University of Calgary to study Computer Science. 
  • Jacob Bennett, who will attend the University of Victoria, beginning with general studies.  
  • Jackson Butler, who has joined the Canadian Forces Reserves and will attend Memorial University of Newfoundland to study Computer Science. 
  • Michael Coffin, who will study at Memorial University's School of Music. 
  • Steven Coffin, who will attend College of the North Atlantic to study Video Game Art and Design.
  • Luke Fowler, who will study at Memorial University's School of Business. 
  • Sarah Henley, who will study Political Science and English at St. Francis Xavier University or Memorial University. 
  • Alex Hiscock, who will study in the Faculty of Arts at Memorial University of Newfoundland. 
  • Malcolm Hollett, who will take a year to focus on his continued recovery from a severe spinal cord injury in grade 9 and pursue his passion for public speaking before studying Engineering. 
  • Rachel Howells, who will study science at Memorial University. 
  • John Lee, who will pursue a degree in  Engineering at Memorial University. 
  • Katie McDonald, who will attend St. Francis Xavier University to study Arts and Science Health.  
  • Connor Milks, who will attend Memorial University of Newfoundland, beginning with general studies. 
  • Cullen Miller, who will attend Texas A&M University to study engineering.
  • Luke Moores, who will attend the University of Waterloo to study Accounting and Financial Management.  
  • Emma Murray, who will study science at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
  • Gabrielle Newman, who will study in the Licence Practical Nurse Program at Memorial's Centre for Nursing Studies. 

What's Happening at SBC?
  • Our Kindergarten Celebration and Grades 1-6 Award Ceremonies were both held on Tuesday, June 26, while our Grades 7-10 Awards were held on Wednesday, June 27. Congratulations to our students for their hard work this year.

  • Our K-6 classes participated in some amazing field trips in the month of June. Educational and fun, they visited places such as the Petty Harbour Mini Aquarium, The Fluvarium, The Railway Coastal Museum and more. Our Grade 5 Class took a full day trip to Ferryland to learn about the amazing archaeological sites there. Thanks to all of our teachers who put so much effort into making this past month so special for our students.

  • Our Grade 3's finished off their unit on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a fun-filled Wonka Day, complete with costumes, NL Chocolate Company chocolatier lessons, fizzy drink recipe building and so much more! Thank you to Grade 3 teacher Ms. Anderson and Ms. Goodridge, as well as the many parent volunteers, who made this magical day a possibility for our students. 
Our Grade 3's were met by Willy Wonka (English Teacher Mr. Parab) at the beginning of Wonka Day.

  • Students working on the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Program completed their Bronze Expedition last weekend as they hiked from Admiral's Cove to Lamanche with an overnight camp. Thank you to teachers Ms. Goodridge and Ms. Seviour for volunteering to accompany the students, along with Tracey Shave P'16/P'19, our Duke of Ed Program coordinator.

Upcoming Alumni Events


Mark your calendars! The 5th Annual Fallen 51 Dinner  will be held at the Crow's Nest Officers'  Club on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 . The 2018 Alumni Dinner and Awards will be held atthe school on Thursday, October 25. Ticket information for both events, as well as an announcement regarding the recipient of the Alumni Awards, will be released later summer 2018.

Congratulations to the following alumni on their outstanding accomplishments:
  • Peter Lewis '76 has been inducted in to the NL Sports Hall of Fame. Peter is a three-time Tely10 winner, an avid athlete, a physical education teacher and an accomplished painter. Read more about Peter here.
  • Charlotte-Anne Malischewski '08, 2015 Magis Award recipient, was selected as one of only 20 Canadians to be honoured as a Fellow with Action Canada. Charlotte-Anne is currently an Associate Lawyer with McCarthy-Tetrault in Toronto.

Dr. Lesley Bautista '05, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada


  • After passing the related exam, Dr. Lesley Bautista '05 has officially become a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada with a specialization in anesthesiology. Lesley was also the 2017 Magis Award recipient. 
  • Dr. Matthew Bown '04 has passed the related exam and become a member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. 
  • Fr. Bill Browne '45, a dedicated member of the St. Bon's Alumni Committee, celebrated the 60th anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood on  June 22.

  • Jenny Kim '07 and her team placed 1st of 41 teams at the 2018 European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) International Laurie Dake competition in Denmark for their hydrocarbon reservoir project. 
  • Carl Lake '66 was recognized by the Canadian Blood Services for making his 300th donation.
  • Two St. Bon's Alumni, Katherine Moffatt '14 and Kathleen White '12, were featured in Memorial University's Gazette with their graduation stories. Read the full story on Katherine here and Kathleen here.

St. Bon's Partners with Munn Insurance to Offer Alumni, Parents and Staff Group Discounts
We are thrilled to announce that St. Bon's has recently signed an agreement with Munn Insurance to offer a dicounted rate to alumni, parents and staff. A portion of the premiums will also go directly to the school to support student programs. You can contact Munn for a quote, as per the below information. The group rate is open to new customers, as well as existing Munn customers upon renewal.
