Summer in Ontario brings certain
sweets
to mind, and to the delight of many, Jennifer Rashleigh and Jeff Brown have brought together two of the big ones: ice cream and fresh Ontario fruit.
We recently connected with Jeff to learn more about their dairy-free and local fruit ice creams, and the farms they source from.
“We have a great relationship dealing directly with our farm suppliers,” Jeff shares. “We have benefited from these relationship in that we now have a better understanding of the challenges that local farmers face.”

The Region of Durham has approved an Agriculture Sector Climate Adaptation Strategy,
Growing Resilience
, to strengthen and support their agricultural community in adapting to a changing climate.
“Preparing our communities to cope with and respond to the changing climate is an absolute necessity,” said John Henry,Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer. “Durham’s agricultural sector is an essential piece of our region’s social and economic fabric. We need to continue to support the agricultural community and local food system.”

The first stream of the
Local Food Infrastructure Fund
will begin accepting applications on August 15, 2019. Titled
Infrastructure and Equipment Improvement Projects
, the first stream aims to enable small community-based organizations to improve their infrastructure and purchase equipment that is directly related to the accessibility of healthy, nutritious, and ideally local foods within their community.
