SUMMER 2019 NEWSLETTER

Calling all breakfast eaters! The next time you are enjoying a meal at one of York's local diners, please peruse the placemat in front of you. Leave a Legacy is in the diner placemat ad rotation! If you find one of our ads, please take a photo and send it, along with the name of the diner where your photo was snapped, to the Marketing Committee at lalyork@yorkbar.com. We will be sharing some of these sightings on our Facebook page.

Speaking of Facebook, in the upcoming months, you will see a more targeted social media approach to our Leave a Legacy efforts. Part of this effort will include featuring our nonprofit and professional partners as they share stories about how legacy giving can positively impact not only the community, but, with careful planning, also the livelihood of one's surviving family members.

Let's continue to be one voice in sharing the Leave More Than Footprints message. To aid in this process, please be sure to share our social media posts and like the Leave a Legacy Facebook page.

Thank you. Happy reading and have a lovely summer!

Help us spread the word!

The marketing committee has brainstormed ways to create positive content to spread awareness of Leave a Legacy and, we hope, generate donors in the process. We are asking partners to assist in a few ways:
  1. Please submit a brief story (3-5 sentences) on how Leave a Legacy has impacted your non-profit. Example: The YWCA York received an estate gift of $250,000 - this means we were able to provide care packages for over 200 women and children in our shelters; and fund 100 girls on scholarship through the Girls on the Run program. This donor has Left a Legacy for the lives he or she touched.
  2. We have placemat ads at several local diners in the area. If you spot one, please snap a photo and send to LALYORK@Yorkbar.com with the location of where it was spotted.
  3. The items above will provide content for several areas, including our Facebook page. Please like the page, and share the page personally and on your business page.
  4. We are always looking for new content ideas, and welcome your creative thoughts.

Volunteers Needed - Boards/Upcoming Events

1. The Belmont Theatre:  If you would like to be part of a show behind the scenes, please call The Belmont Theatre at 717-854-3894. We would love to have you paint sets, create costumes, work backstage or usher. Join us for Broadway at The Belmont!

2.  Big Brothers Big Sisters:  Do you want to change the life of an at-risk child in our community? We are looking for mentors or "Bigs" to meet a few times a month for a few hours at a time. A stable, supportive relationship can really make a difference in these kids' lives and empower them to reach their full potential. We have lots of kids on our waiting list including Jacob, who loves gaming, sports, and animals. If you want to make an impact like this, please call us at 717-843-0051 or go to our website: www.bbbsyorkadams.org.

And to all LAL Partners - when you are planning or marketing your events, be sure to post them on the United Way's Community Calendar.

How to make a larger-than-life impact
by MacGregor Brillhart, Esq., Stock and Leader

As you're purchasing gifts for others throughout the year, you might also consider donating to your favorite charity. Maybe it's in the form of money or your time as a volunteer. Regardless, nonprofits are in need of support from the York community every day of the year.

If you feel encouraged to give even more, it might be worth considering incorporating charitable giving into your estate plan. If you have children and/or a spouse, you may be hesitant to give your money away to an entity other than them. However, tax incentives associated with providing for a charity are often overlooked.
