Sunny Summer Days
We hope you all have enjoyed the sunshine, stayed cool during the heat waves, and have been able to spend time with friends and family.

We are pleased to send you another installment of our newsletter!
The Boston Children’s Foundation (BCF), founded by Robert Macy and Dicki Johnson Macy, is committed to ending the trauma that perpetuates a culture of fear, maladaptation and violence by turning youth’s natural energy towards healing activities, social empathy and positive relationships.

BCF Spotlight: Valerie Blanc
Valerie Blanc is a dance/movement therapist and educator, living in Cambridge, MA with her husband, two teenagers, and little pug, Waffles. Valerie began her work with the Boston Children’s Foundation in the spring of 1999, when she began to conduct Rainbowdance groups in the Boston area. As her love for the prevention work with young children grew, so did her role with the foundation. Valerie worked as the Assistant Director of BCF alongside her mentor, Dicki Johnson Macy for thirteen years. She became a senior trainer in both Rainbowdance and CBI and travelled to Taiwan, the Mississippi gulf coast after Hurricane Katrina, New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy, and many other amazing connections with inspiration people who work with children. Valerie is also incredibly proud of the interns with whom she and Dicki were able to work throughout the years and the work that they are doing throughout the country and the world.

In 2013, Valerie opened a private practice in Cambridge working with children and their families. Shortly after that she began her doctoral studies at Lesley University. Her studies focused on developing pedagogical theory in dance/movement therapy and researching the innovative ways that dance/movement therapy educators are supporting students. This past May 2019 she completed her PhD and published her dissertation study The Dance of Becoming: Pedagogy in Dance/Movement Therapy in the United States.  Her work has shifted to a full time core faculty position at Lesley where she has taken the passion for mentoring that began at BCF into her work in higher education. Valerie also continues to dance with the Guardians of Isadora ensemble with Dicki, Rachel, and the entire BCF Duncan Dance family.
Another Beautiful Student Duncan Dance Performance
On June 2nd, The Art & Technique of Isadora Duncan held a student performance to celebrate another beautiful year of dancing together. At the end of the performance, Dicki honored those dancers who have been a part of Dicki's Duncan dancing the longest, including mother-daughter pairs, adults who have danced with Dicki since they were toddlers, and all the wonderful new students. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated!
Rainbowdance on the Road Again
Three Basic Rainbowdance Trainings were completed in June throughout the nation in Sonoma, CA, Washington, D.C., and Boston, MA. BCF is excited to continue spreading the joy of Rainbowdance to teachers, clinicians, early childhood education staff, and more.

Credentialing Ceremony in
DJM Duncan Children’s Pedagogy
Dicki has finally codified her Duncan Children’s Program, and has created a credentialing program. This includes the pedagogy as well as the theory and history behind her experience of the Art and Technique of Isadora Duncan.

During the Surrendering to the Arms of Mother Workshop on July 20th, Rachel Assaf, BCF's Assistant Director, was an honored recipient along with Becky Lallande, who is spreading the joys of The Art & Technique of Isadora Duncan in Washington D.C. through the organization Inner City, Inner Child.

BCF is delighted to have credentialed teachers who can continue to share and spread the Children's Pedagogy.

Preschool Rainbowdance Training

Rainbowdance © for preschool children (ages 3-5) continues to reinforce trust and stability through the use of repetitive and integrated movements and sound. Activities that encourage exploration of the environment are framed by familiar beginning and ending circles. Through stories and movement improvisations children explore their relationships to each other, practice self-regulation and modulation, and experience the natural world as home. Individual and group esteem is enhanced and dynamically woven into the Rainbowdance © experience.
