Patient Success Story: Meet Red!
"Red is 5 years old. He loves chocolate milk, animals, construction vehicles, watching movies and playing outside. He was born with a club foot that he has had 3 surgeries on to help repair it, Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy that affects the left side of his body and a rare brain abnormality called Pachygyria with Polymicrogyria that causes cognitive, motor and speech delays.

Red receives Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. Red has made a lot of gains because of therapy. He is becoming more well-rounded in all areas of development because of the help from his wonderful therapists. He has gained more strength, balance and better control of his body with PT and Ms. Alyssa was very helpful with Red's foot stretches which are needed to help keep his club foot from tightening up. He is also very fast now. We weren't sure if Red would be able to walk when he was younger and now we have a hard time keeping up with him. He is doing way more with his left hand which used to be in a closed fist position most of the time before therapy, thanks to Ms. Alicia. He is even using that hand to help with many different daily tasks and play activities at home and at school. He is also becoming more independent with self care routines like washing hands, dressing, helping with chores around the house and more. Red has a severe expressive speech delay but with the help of Ms. Chrissy, he is making improvements all the time. She has helped him work on verbal communication as well as learning how to use and navigate his communication device which takes a lot of time, practice and effort to use. He has learned so much from her and is learning new things all the time. I am very grateful to have such wonderful therapists in Red's life because without them, he would not be as successful as he is today. They do a great job helping Red to become more independent and confident in his abilities.

Red has had many challenges so far and he will continue to have challenges throughout his life, but with therapy, we know he will have positive motivation and encouragement behind him to keep him on the right track. Red is a very positive and driven young man. He is so happy, sweet, and loves life. I am thankful for Red everyday and he has helped us realize what things are important in life. He inspires us everyday to do our best. I feel very lucky and honored to be his mother." -Amanda, Red's Mom
"Red has made wonderful progress in OT. When he first began, he did not tolerate range of motion exercises and only used his right hand for task.  Now his range of motion has improved dramatically and he spontaneous uses his left arm and hand!  He has also gained a great amount of strength in his left hand and he can hold onto objects against resistance with left hand. For example, he can pull apart interlocking toys and remove paper towel from a paper towel roll using two hands.  His grasp on clothing has improved and he can now maintain a grasp on his pants with both hands as well as help put a coat on and off.  He is now able to maintain a grasp on small objects such as buttons with both hands and he has started using a shoe horn to remove his shoes. He has done amazing work!  Way to go, Red!"- Alicia, OT

"Since I began working with Red, he has demonstrated so many gains. Red’s gains have been seen in his walking which includes going up/down stairs and walking over obstacles where he has improved his independence in performing. His confidence has also grown as he has gained these skills with willingness to perform even when he is not asked to. Red’s charming smile lights up any room that he walks into and he is always willing to give a big hug when he knows that he has worked hard at the end of a session, or when he does t necessarily want to do an activity but will end up doing it anyway. Red’s success in physical therapy has been a treat to be apart of and I can’t wait to see the continued success that he has in the future." -Alyssa, PT
Employee of the Quarter: Kaitlyn!
Congratulations to our employee of the quarter, Kaitlyn! Kaitlyn is one of our excellent occupational therapists as well as our Occupational Therapy Department Lead. Always willing to help with a smile, Kaitlyn consistently goes above and beyond to be the best therapist and team member that she possibly can be. She has worked tirelessly with the schedule to help provide services to as many patients as possible and has maintained wonderful relationships with her families in the process.

Finally, as a skilled OT, she has become QRI trained and has recently taken a kinesiotaping course. She has also received training in primitive reflexes, sensory and behavior, and the zones of regulation.

You are so wonderful, Kaitlyn! Thank you for all that you do! We could not be more lucky to have you on the team.
