BBB Serving Metro NY Announces New Board Chair
Nielsen's Eric Solomon Assumes Chairman Role
|
|
|
|
On Tuesday, May 12, 2020, Eric Solomon, Senior Vice President of Client Relations at Nielsen, was elected as Chairman of the Board for BBB Serving Metropolitan New York. He has served as a Vice Chair and is a member of the BBB Board of Directors.
Mr. Solomon is a member of the Nielsen Global Media Client Solutions team, responsible for leading a key part of the National Media business. He is a frequent speaker at industry events, including Nielsen’s own National Client Meeting and Consumer 360. Solomon holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS in Economics from the Wharton School.

Mr. Solomon assumes the BBB Chair’s responsibilities from Michael Portegello, Partner of Assurance Services and Northeast Markets Growth Leader at EY, who served as Board Chairman since 2016 and remains a BBB Board member.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Frustrations Highlighted in Recent Consumer Reviews & Complaints
New Better Business Briefing Tracks 3 Months of Pandemic Complaints

|
|
The International Association of Better Business Bureaus released an updated
issue of Better Business Briefing this month, which provides more information on how businesses across North America are feeling the effects of COVID-19 (coronavirus).
This new data collected from BBB.org shows that the surge in COVID-19 related consumer reviews and complaints observed in March has continued to increase through May.
According to the data - which you can view by clicking
here or on the image accompanying this article - complaints and reviews related to the COVID-19 pandemic made up 12.4% of all complaints and reviews submitted to BBB from March through the end of May this year. Of the nearly 54,000 such complaints and reviews filed between March and May 2020, 3,819 were filed against businesses in the New York / New Jersey region. Many of the complaints and reviews concerned travel,events, and ecommerce transactions.

BBB Institute for Marketplace Trust Publishes New Report
What Businesses and Employers Can Do To Help Applicants Avoid Job Scams

Employment fraud has been on the rise during the pandemic, according to a
new report
from the BBB Institute of Marketplace Trust. The Institute recommends employers take the following courses of action to help applicants avoid losing money to job scams:
|
|
|
|
- Post all jobs on your website in an accessible way so job applicants can confirm which jobs are legitimate.
- Be consistent about how and where you post all open positions to ensure consumers can easily confirm job announcements and offerings.
- Explain in detail your company’s hiring process and be sure you are consistent with that policy.
- Post tips and other resources for consumers visiting the employment section of your website.
- Help BBB Institute and others spread the word about job scams and how to avoid them by encouraging consumers to learn more at BBB.org/EmploymentScams.

How Can I Get More Customer Reviews on my BBB Profile?

BBB makes it easy to encourage your consumers to submit a review with personalized links for BBB Accredited Businesses. Businesses can access customized HTML codes for a "Submit a Customer Review" button that can be placed on your company's website, blog, email signature, social media accounts, etc. It is a simple way to get more of your customers talking about you to BBB and build up your customer review section. Businesses have the opportunity to publicly respond to every review, so please remember to do so and engage with your customers!
