Building bridges across age and cognitive barriers through art
FREE Webinar: Five OMA spin-offs during the pandemic
Save the Date!
Thursday, August 12, 2021
2:00 - 3:00 pm EDT
Five organizations in three countries (USA, Canada and the UK) responded to the challenge created by the pandemic: How to maintain intergenerational connections around the arts when in-person visits are not possible? Three programs went virtual and two programs did not. All five programs are rooted in person-centered philosophy, yet distinct from one another.

The goal of this workshop is to inspire attendees to think outside the box and consider limitations imposed by the pandemic as opportunities to diversify offerings. Videos, example artistic creations, research findings, and tools for replication will be shared.

Taking OMA to Indonesia through Fulbright
OMA Founder and Director Dr. Elizabeth 'Like' Lokon was recently selected for a Fulbright award to Indonesia in Spring 2022. Her project, "Using Art to Teach Intergenerational Service Learning for People Living with Dementia," will bring OMA to Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Her placement will be shared between the medical school and the department of psychology.
Grants available for 12 Ohio Nursing Homes
As long-term care providers open their doors to visitors, we invite Ohio nursing homes with Medicaid certification to apply for grant funding to implement OMA and meet their Quality Improvement Project (QIP) requirement.

Selected nursing homes will partner with universities educating future healthcare professionals and receive scholarships for two staff members to attend OMA training (valued at $1500), plus $2000 to purchase art supplies. Fully online trainings are available. Don't miss this opportunity to bring a highly rated, person-centered program to your location!

Encore.Org’s Gen2Gen Innovation Fellows Featured OMA
Dr. Lokon was named one of Encore.org’s Gen2Gen Innovation Fellows for her work developing a dementia-friendly app, ScrippsAVID, that fosters intergenerational friendship through simultaneous art-making over video chat. The nine-month fellowship culminated with a three-minute video demonstrating how they are solving problems facing the aging population and bringing older and younger individuals together.
