During a time like no other in our lives, the COVID-19 pandemic produced uncertainty and stress in our communities. Despite the many challenges brought on by the pandemic, our staff remained committed to supporting individuals and families in their times of crisis. As we shift back to in-person programs and events, we recognize that the need for our services is very high. Spring brought a renewed sense of optimism and we are inspired by the resilience of those we serve in the community.

Our ability to help these individuals and families remains rooted in the commitment of people in our communities who understand the power and importance of what we do. Our staff, Board of Directors, sponsors, supporters and partners have a desire to make a difference in the lives of the clients we serve and the community at large - and for that we are very grateful.

NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLE'S DAY

On June 21, we observed National Indigenous Peoples Day, recognizing the history, heritage and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada.

THE OUTREACH CENTRE'S

2ND ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC

The Outreach Centre is proud to announce that the 2nd Annual Golf Classic raised $75,000.

Held at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club, the event started with a Cocktail Party on Sunday, June 12. On Monday, June 13, 32 teams competed in the golf classic, followed by dinner, an awards ceremony, and a performance from country singer Hailey Benedict.

Funds were raised through sponsorship opportunities, monetary donations and registration fees, in addition to a live and silent auction. Proceeds from the event will go towards the programs and services offered at The Outreach Centre, supporting the individuals served in their pursuit of healthy relationships, mental health wellbeing, housing stability and self-sufficiency.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® Red Deer is back!

On September 15 walk as an individual, team, or with your coworkers in the corporate challenge! Have your network pledge and support you on this amazing day! You can walk in person or virtually, its up to you.

Your support means that local families experiencing domestic violence, mental health issues, poverty and homelessness will continue to have access to over 40 programs and services offered at The Outreach Centre.

Walk a Mile - and be the difference between hope and despair. Your help is needed today.

SAFE TRACKS GPS CANADA

Proudly serving Canada since 2009, SafeTracks® GPS Canada has been building safer and more inclusive communities with electronic monitoring devices. Their technology supports survivors of domestic violence by using GPS technology to manage offenders, managing risks before they happen, and alert police that an emergency is in progress, allowing the survivor to maintain their independence and quality of life. The technology offered by SafeTracks® significantly enhances public safety and survivor protection.

With a focus on safety and inclusivity, community is at the heart of everything they do. This is evident in the continuing support that SafeTracks® affords to The Outreach Centre. They are ongoing event supporters, sponsoring the stage at last year's Lip Sync Battle and the carts at the Golf Classic for the past 2 years. They have also been onsite at our Walk a Mile in Her Shoes events, offering information about their technology and domestic violence prevention.

With a background in the oil field, President Vince Morelli says he was entrenched in business and never really paid attention to what was happening in the community. “When I left the oil field, I decided I wanted to make a difference in the community,” says Vince. “I realized there were people hurting and I wanted to better understand the problem, as well as the strategies that could provide a solution.”

Knowing that this technology is helping to save lives has had great impact on Vince. “We have the recipe to help survivors of domestic violence. It’s a good feeling that really hits the heart. This has changed my life and the way I view my community, and it can change the lives of many survivors of domestic violence.”

TOOLS FOR SCHOOL

The last day of school may be just around the corner, but we are already preparing for next year! Last year, over 900 kids in central Alberta went back to school with free backpacks and school supplies thanks to Tools for School.

WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES SYLVAN LAKE

On June 2, students, staff and community members of all ages walked in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in Sylvan Lake. Presented by the HJ Cody Interact Club, the fifth annual event raised funds for The Outreach Centre and brought attention and awareness to gender-based and domestic violence issues in the community.

With about 600 people walking and over $7000 raised, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Sylvan Lake was once again a huge success!

We are hiring a Community Helpers Educator & Outreach Worker, who will be responsible for curriculum development and the delivery of education programs with a focus on suicide prevention and domestic violence. They will also provide outreach support for those requiring services and referrals.
