CONVERSION TO E-FILING FOR FEDERAL PAYROLL TAX RETURNS IN QUICKBOOKS
Based on information from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers, "Even though filing on paper is less secure, takes longer and is more prone to mistakes, almost 40% of small employers still file on paper, according to the IRS."

QuickBooks Desktop has the capability to enroll the business owner for e-file using a 10-digit Form 94x On-Line Signature PIN for On-Line Electronic Filing via QuickBooks. I will be working with all employers who are still filing paper forms to assist with the enrollment process and convert to the e-file method by the end of the year. Please reach out if you are interested in this process or if you have additional questions.
INTUIT 2022 PRICE INCREASES FOR QBO AND FOR QB DESKTOP
Intuit released a notice of "Upcoming changes to QuickBooks products and pricing" in late May that covers price increases across the board starting in July and ending in mid-September. The QBO Subscription prices are increasing for Simple Start, Essentials, Plus and Advanced versions. The majority of my clients (firm-billed) won't see these price increases until September. All of the clients who pay directly for their own subscription should see those price increases in July and August.

I will be contacting individual clients who pay directly to CLN Consulting to provide your new pricing within the next couple of weeks and we will see those prices hit in September.

We also received advance notice that the QB Desktop pricing update will also go into effect in mid-September. QuickBooks Desktop 2023 products will be available for accountants on September 6, 2022 and September 20, 2022 for general release to small businesses. Click the link below to read more about why they are raising their prices and how and when it might affect you.

CHANGES TO RECURRING PAYMENT AGREEMENTS
I will be changing the text on the Recurring Payment agreements for payments of subscription services for online products. This WILL NOT affect Recurring Payment agreements for services from CLN Consulting Associates.

Price increases are more common than ever before and it is time consuming to continually update new agreements when the price increase is well documented by the provider with frequent increases of small increments and we are unable to avoid the increase without discontinuing the service. Recurring Payment agreements for the following services will be updated over the next year to reflect this new policy:

  • QuickBooks Online Products (except when included as a part of CLN Consulting Services)
  • Right Networks Cloud Platform
  • Bill.com Subscriptions

While we won't be renewing the agreements for each price increase, you will receive advance notice as well as continued documentation from the provider regarding these increases.

MID-YEAR CHANGE IN IRS MILEAGE RATES
The IRS has announced a mid-year change in the standard mileage rates effective July 1, 2022. The business mileage rate has been increased to 62.5 cents per mile (up from 58.5 cents per at the start of the year) and 22 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes for qualified members of the Armed Forces (up from 18 cents per mile at the start of the year.

The charitable organizations rate remains unchanged.

Midyear increases in the optional mileage rates are rare, and the last time the IRS made such an increase was in 2011.
